G'day people,
My first post on this forum and it seems like every is enjoying themselves. I'm from Ipswich, QLD and have been scratchin' in the bush since I was 8yrs old. I think I caught the bug when I was on a school camp that went to the Tooloom Fields.
I use to dredge way back, but we know that is a no-no so I mainly pan and/or detect. I'm currently designing a high banker from my old dredges as they are going to waste under the house.
I was a formerly from Northern NSW and moved up this way for work back 87. Now married with two boys in tow who love the great outdoors as much as I do.
Hobbies include fishing, diving, camping and chasing the elusive one, not to mention beach and bush detecting.
Occupation, Senior design draftsmen for earthmoving company.
Enough of me,
Cheers and HH

Hi aushunter,

Welcome to the clan. We refer to your bug as GAD "Gold Addictive Disorder", and all have it. We get cranky and twitches when we can't get out there.

Hope you find the site a pleasure and an education.

Cheers

Simon

Hey Aushunter,

Welcome

We aren't too far apart or too far from Tooloom.

Gday Dad,
I have been hunting the Tooloom field for yrs with my prospecting mate Marty, who is no longer with us anymore.
I use to have a small claim down that way about 20yrs or so ago.
Oh how time flies by.
I remember once that I said to Marty to check out an old entrance to an old drive as I saw a bit of a quartz vien running up into the hill, as I was packing up my gear to head back after a weekend by myself. So the following weekend Marty went down and scored 1oz of the yellow stuff. Good on him I reckon.
There is still gold to be got down there, but I have only been down there once since Marty past away.
I gotta get back into the swing of things as I really miss the peace and quite of the bush, not to mention the gold that comes outta the ground.
I know the owners reasonably well and have no problem in camping in any part of the property.
Anyway people, I could chinwag a lot about that place, but I gotta get some work done around the house so I can go chase some Reclaw crayfish next week end up at Somerset dam.
Gonna organise a trip to Tooloom before Xmas as IM getting a bit itchy and need to feed my appetite for the fever.
HH and cheers

Welcome aushunter to the best gold site on the web with the best and maddest wackier you can ask for ;D, but they will try and help you in any way possible with any problems that you may have in regards to golding. And don't forget mate, the only dumb question is the one that you don't ask.
Cheers and enjoy the group

hi Guys. i am in brissy, and would love to tag along and learn if it were possible on your trip in the field. I only have a pan and shovel at the moment. But i am young and fit enough to swing off it all day.

Keene as mustard,

Rob

Gday fella's,
I'm quite sure I'll pick up a few pointers here and there for sure.
Rob, good to see someone local, I think Dad lives up in the high country and should be close to some good areas up there.
I have been studying a few places out at the Talgai area but need to correspond or talk to the property owners.
Rob, have you been out getting a few pans in?
If so, how did you go?
Ive tried the Gympie area but it seems to be mostly locked up and inaccesible. It's a shame that prospectors basically built Oz
and it seems to be a dying past-time.
Anyway lads,
I'm gonna hit the hay shortly and sound a few Zed's.
Cheers and HH

Hi Aushunter. Yeah, i've done a bit of panning. Tried gympie with no luck also. Most of my looking has been around the sunshine coast hinterland. I know of a creek near malaney that has some gold in it. i went there once had a real bit of an adventure. i did still manage to bring some yellow home. Also Jimna still holds colour and i know a creek near kennilworth where i found a very small picker once is still supposed to hold colour. My wifes family are from the sunshine coast and we visit regularly. Would really enjoy a companion on the hunt if your interested in travelling that way.

Sounds like we got something in common besides gold fever.
My wifes family also reside on the Sunshine at Buderim.
I usually do some Bass fishing up at Borumba near Imbil, suppose to have gold there to. We could organise a trip soon.
I got a trip up to Borumba soon and I'll talk to the caretaker there as he is an old Prospector also. He did mention once about gold being down at the creek behind the camp site.
I want to head down to Tooloom for a weekend soon to try out the highbanker/banjo that I have been working on.
would be good to get that baby happening.
Anyway, gotta go back to work.
Cheers and HH
