Hi guys
Thats cool. Unfortunatly I didn't find any gold. I got 1 speck of colour in a creek somewhere in Nundle State Forest. I was driving with a mate to scout some new areas for deer or pigs and came across this little creek with a big natural weir. I got through the top sediments and grabbed a couple shovel loads of the heavy stuff. put that in the pan and got 1 speck.
wasn't worth freezing my hands off. Next hunting trip to Nundle is in March. I plan to take a few days off then to hunt the yellow stuff as well. at least it will be warmer then

Hey guys.
I'm planning going up on Thursday and doing some panning. Can anyone recommend anywhere? I have done some in the peel just north out of nundle and came across a little to just keep me interested.
I did go for a walk up at hanging rock also, it looked like the movie wrong turn, so I didn't stay long. But this time I'm thinking of going up and doing some detecting and grab a bucket or so of dirt to take down to the peel to wash.

Hi. New to the forum and just starting out. I've done some test didgs at Hill End for some success but come up empty at Nundle mostly. I keep hearing about TSR and Plum tree as prospecting spots but cant seem to find them on any maps. Keen to run the detectors on the dry. Keen to run my nox 800 and gm1000.ca

Fossicking at Travelling Stock Routes in the district is disallowed, although the policy a few years ago was that you could apply individually for permission. I'm not sure if it is policed. (I suspect the current management intend to sell the various TSRs in their portfolio, so are dissuading public usage in order to reach a predetermined policy-trigger threshold.)
Maps should be obtainable at the tourist information centre located at the tourist park. The rock collection on display there is impressive.
Last time I was there, there were two designated fossicking areas on the Peel river: Swamp Creek (popular, nice place to stop for lunch) and The Chimney (quite small, snake-magnet and troublesome to access).
Don't overlook the state forests at hanging Rock. There are/were(?) some nice creeks for gold panning on the Western edge (Burrows, Folly), and a sapphire and zircon field (dry sieving) near the junction of Forest Way and Duncan's Creek Road. You'll need a permit (buy one online from NSW Forestry Commission - or whatever they call themselves this week) and check forestry bulletins for closures due to logging of compartments.
