Currently looking at Honda pumps to put water through my 9" sluice.
I've seen the WX10 (125 litres/min) for $555 and WX15 (240 litres/min) for $680.
Obviously the bigger pump is heavier, and costs more. Is the added weight and higher cost worthwhile or will the WX10 be more than anyone would need?

Hi Rob, I use a 2.2hp Honda 4 stroke with a small Jessie pump.(The snail shell looking ones) It is 2" intake and 1 1/2" output. I very rarely if ever have needed to run it at more than 1/3 revs (usually runs at just above idle) even at Oallen pumping around 60 or 70 meters. I have never used a full tank of fuel in a day yet. James and a few others have 2.5hp Hondas which do the work very easily.

G/day Rob, I also have one of the pumps that Ric was talking about in the 2.5hp model. From memory I think its 97cc and it will easily pump 120 metres plus with 38mm hose at Oallen at about 1/3 throttle and I think its even quieter than the 1hp model wx10. The wx15 I believe is only 50cc but still produces 2.5hp and its quite a bit noisier than either of the 97cc or the wx10 models. I dont believe that the 97cc model is available any more but its super reliable and has never let me down except when I forget to turn the off switch over to start. It weighs about 14kg. Rowdy

Thanks for the info chaps. I want to keep it fairly lightweight if I have to carry it any sort of distance, and being quiet also means I can go reasonably un-noticed at a few creeks I know that are near houses. As long as the WX10 is man enough for running my kit, I'd be happy with that. I can't see me ever having to realistically pump massive head heights.

Edge Technology: Honda WX10 water pump
Honda WX10 water pump is a superb general de-watering pump that can move 130 litres of fresh water per minute through its 1-inch pipe. This clean running 4-stroke engine is ideal for drainage, irrigation and all-purpose cleaning. Widely used for clearing floodwater and with a suction head lift of 7 meters it is often used for draining flooded cellars or boats. The very lightweight of 6.8 kg and easy carry handle makes it ideal for movement to wherever it is needed.

Thanks Steve
Good to see (and hear) that engine in action. Looks like the Honda WX10 is the one to go for.

Bought a WX10 this afternoon, the overhead cam version.
Now to fill it with oil...
Just another question too - interfacing hoses to the pump, is it best to use the supplied couplers, or find some sort of hose end with the same 1" pipe thread? The ID of the hose couplers brings the system down to about 20mm rather than the 1" diameter on the pump outlet.

Rob. A possible solution to connection problems would be to use "Camlock" fittings. They are much convenient than screw threads and you don't lose the rubber sealing washers either. You will find sizes to suit your hoses without restricting down to 20mm bore - the black plastic types found at irrigation suppliers are the best and not overly expensive.Hope you find this useful. Rob. The Honda WX10($605.00 most quotes) is a good pump - but don't forget to shop around for equally good alternatives such as the Subaru/Aussie pump 4stroke model QO1EHO25 (1" model) delivers max'head of 42 metres (70psi),max flow 110l/min weiht 5.2kg. If you are in the Ballarat area they can be found for $420.00. Some Honda info' indicates the WX10 good for 35m max'head and 130l/min max' flow but is actually 110l/min when you eventually track down the correct data . The Subaru /Aussie , Robin/Subaru and Yamaha are all fairly similar in performance but varying prices in the $500.00+ range. James recently made me aware of a very good 2 stroke alternative which is the Oleo-Mac Model SA18DIY that delivers up to 150l/min max flow and max head of 35 metres with a price tag around the $460.00 mark.Probably others out there if you go looking for them. Personaly I'm leaning towards the Subaru/Aussie pump as I prefer 4 strokes, the wet end is Australian manufacture, price is good, light weight for back packing and I prefer to have the extra pressure at the spray bars. The performance curve tells me that I can expect almost 18m(30psi) with about 75l/min flow rate which will be quite adequate for the short tray banjo I'm about to commence. Still haven't discounted the Oleo - Mac 2 stroke totally as it looks to be a good unit and weighs only 3.5kg. Pays to shop around. Regards. Geoff/bbungy2.

Hi there Geoff , The pump I had at El was one of those Oleo-mac's. (SA-18 ) . Have had it for over 10 yrs so far and the first real problem with it was at El when it wouldn't rev . James worked out that it was the muffler that was blocked up and a quick visit by the muffler in a fire soon cleared it out . Has otherwise always been a good dependable little pump . Ron

I'd heard the Subaru/Robin pumps are quite noisy... albeit a slightly higher delivery rate.
Still, got the Honda now - I'm sure it'll do what I want, quietly.
