Big wooden spoon coming out to stir... So that means the Whites is like Toyota and Minlab is like Lexen, only difference is price to some people and to others they are completely different.

Like to hear more about those specimens DD , care to share what you know please Sure, they were all highly mangled greenstone/quartz chunks, mostly golf ball - cricket ball size , slight elluvial rounding and spread over a wide area, most were on the surface. The gold was speckled finely like colors and didn't have enough of it together for the 5000 to get a signal ( a few did ). I had a go and the GMT made a pretty clear signal, I think this is because the VLF picks up the general mineralization better that the PI 's are canceling out. I was pretty impressed for a $900 detector, but this guy has been detecting a long time I wouldn't say a beginner could buy one and get the same results in the hot ground out there. Diggerdude

Diggerdude Thanks DD , Yep I to think the reason why PIs are weak on some specimen gold is to do with obtaining a smooth ground balance & swing speed considering pulse feedback , another reason you probably know that auto ground balance detectors will cancel out finding certain gold , the natural tendency is to sweep over a weak beep with short strokes to ascertain that signal , joke is when doing this the auto balance machine with readjust thinking its just mineralization & null that signal , result is not to dig ! Cheers Bobby.

If you really want to know about the TDI google Reg Sniff, he does work with Eric Foster, and knows everything about the TDI and there is a lot to learn. If you own one, try and miss the part where (if the settings are wrong) you could wave over the foot of faith and never hear a thing. BTW. the pro is not much different to the pro, they just had to put more turns on the ground balance knob, the more mineralised the ground, the less depth you get, so the Canadian test is even more relevant.

About PI detectors . Jonathan Porter who is involved with Minelab said the following this year :
VLF detectors do have a place in the arsenal of serious electronic prospectors and they do find gold missed by PIs because Pulse Induction means just that, its a pulse detector, to get rid of the vast majority of ground noise you also have to trade off some signal response to targets that fit in the same place as the trade offs do, basically speaking that means some fast time constant nuggets will be lost due to the receive waitings turning on too late for the target signal to be recognised (in effect blind to some targets).
Have Fun Bobby.

This is why I only had my short experience at gold detecting
Bought one, minelab 4000.
Found something but did not know if it was me that missing the gold, the equipment or just had no luck.
I would go on days and days and not find gold, swinging that arm.
When spending with the dealer he would always tell me I was doing it wrong, so I asked him to come out with me, nug he declined. But he did say to me if I bought this coil it would help me find more gold ....
Then went the river digging. Guess what every time I wemt out on the river I would find gold. Never that nugget like people show me in photo .. one day :-) but enough to make me feel happy and not I was always at fault because did not know how to use the equipment feeling.
I meet a hardcore detector, the kind urban legend are made from. He had the swag, hat, 4wd and even the dog. I asked him how he found his gold. He said move to wa or nt for 4 month depend on season, Vic u are kind of wasting yoir tme. The place has been dug to death .... don't get him wrong u will find some but not enough to bring home the beacon.
This is when I turn to digging.
Someone on here will prove me wrong, but if you are happy then get it and don't look back. I prefer digging as when I see that clay hit my sluice and run over those ripples I just pretend to see gold ... to bad the weigh in is always less then I see, those dam scale must be rig towards the negative :-) .. happy gold hunting.
