I live in the Dandenongs and have been going to Castlemaine on daily panning trips. I am now finding the 5+ hours driving on top of a days hard work is getting too much. I know little about the area but believe there are places in the Jamieson region worth a visit with the pan. Can anyone tell me if the area would be worth a look. It would certainly be an easier drive

Try this link er-info.dpi.vic.gov.au/sd_weave/anonymous.htmlMake sure layers are selected. Click the green button (Add Layers), then Minerals, Deposit Styles, then Alluvial Au and Undecided. This map and info will give you a good indication

rather than Jamieson you dont have to travel far from the Dandenongs to find good spots to pan. there are alluvial gold bearing creeks virtually in your back yard. do a bit of research and you will find spots close by

longbob. There's is gold at Warrendite, but has been well paned out, take a drive up to Panton Hill 35 minute drive from Dandenong. In the past I have panned some good gold there. All the gullies have gold in them. Should be good at the moment after the recent rain. Christmas Hills is a good place to for a Sunday outing. Flying Scott

Thanks Flying Scott. Are the gullies accessible up that way, or on private property? I'm excited at the prospect of panning that close to home. Thanks mate

There is a small picnic aria at Warrendite. go up gold memorial road. obey the signs about panning, don't dig into the creek bank. The creek is called Andersons Creek. there is an old gold mine up the hill on other side of the creek. if you are going to Panton hill. go through the village, immediately after the little milk bar turn right, Long Gully Road go down that gravel road about 1 kilometre, there is a creek on your left. I never had any problems with the locals, the road is narrow just find a bit wide enough for you to park your car safley. Flying Scott
