Hi Phillip. I can give much advice on up Kangaroo way although I have heard some prospectors do really well if they find a good unobvious hole that hasnt been flogged. There tends to be more gems up that way too. As for that one heading back to Beechworth, I think I know the track. It's close to the road on the Beechworth side when you are heading towards the hill, and Woolshed Cabins. The track 'Ys' off. One track goes left ( the rocky area ) and one goes right ( very tall cliffs )?. The rocky area isnt bad and you can get a gram a day but the granite is very rotten, very sticky dark clay and the gold is in layers - so spot checks is a must or you could be shovelling for nothing, or work the top 10 cm in front of or behind any rocks in the main current. Good luck.

That area you are describing sounds like Sebastapol Flat. Not a bad area for gems. Got a couple of nice blue ones from there. It's a pretty good area and you can do well if you find a good catchment. The nature of the smooth rocks and exposed bedrock can move the gold on pretty quick - so find those natural barriers. If you take the second track past that creek crossing - heading towards Elderado, there's a second creek that runs alongside for about 150 metres - but you have to wade across the main creek to get to it. It's good too for gold and gems and it's gets you out of the main creek and easy to work. The creek drops a contour at this camp spot - you will see the obvious fall and rapids.
