Testing out the new river sluice tomorrow. Been a few weeks in the making and it's going out with a pair of vice grips as it's at 98% completion (hey it was good enough for Boeing... ) Main bits are in order and it's not looking too bad. I dont think I'll have to worry about greenies coming across it...pi**ing themselves laughing and going " yeah ..good luck with that.." Here's to a clean catch pan i hope

Great to hear the project is coming together. There is nothing better than going out and using something you made yourself. This is a big part of what we promote on this forum Simple easy to build and carry DIY equipment. Any pics Mushmouse? We love pics If you are having trouble attaching photos from your photobucket acccount all you have to do is click on the last of the "Share Links" IMG Not HTML When you click IMG it will copy the image and all you do is past into your post. I did this for you on your post about Bunnings Sluice Mats so the image is visible in the post alluvialgprospectors.proboards.com/thread/6897/bunnings-sluice-matCheers Ric

Sluice at work. Very impressed on how quick they are to feed. Still up in the air about the layout on the bottom. The smaller rubber diamond matting worked well in capturing the gold but wouldnt go the whole length with it ( filled quick with no riffles- darn Tin ) so am going to put in the bigger hex stuff and a couple of riffles to help with the cleaning and try not to boil it out. Found a few specs in the pan so its back on the workbench now. Ironing board worked really well and will definantly see me through until I can source some perforated alloy.

Well done Mush. That's the only way to know if you have it right, field test, field test and field test some more. Make the fine adjustments and test again.
Well done.
PS. where do you live? I have plenty of expanded and miners moss if you aren't too far away/

Looks good Mushmouse When you set up a river sluice try and dam either side of the feed chute a bit with some rocks. This will help direct the water into the feed which in turn will clean the wash through the sluice better. Just a matter of playing with water flow and sluice angle

Thanks guys for the encouragement and feedback . It was interesting to see some of the gold kick back onto that slip plate and just sit there - even under that fairly strong flow. I have now put in the new Hex mat and am making a couple of riffles out of some scrap at home. Will try the rock corral next time out. Thanks for the offer Jeff. I had visited 6 different metal/engineering recyclers in the area and no joy with the diamond alloy. (I'm in Wodonga ) Oh - and one measurement that I didnt take into consideration. The sluice is 15mm longer than the tub on the forby...oops.

Hi Mushmouse.
Looks as though you will have to trade the 4x on a larger model. Remember, for fossickers and prospectors, equipment comes first, everything else has fit around it. Maybe the sluice would fit in an F350. Good luck with it all and happy golding.
PS. Wodonga, a great place. Used to live there in the 70's.
