Partner took a pan to do some spot checking up the hills ( Omeo district ) coming back from the coast. Did 5 pans out of one hole. All had body to them and the finest was visual to the eye. Big stream tin and a lot of the cons attached to a magnet. Time for a Road Trip

Cheers. He really thought he'd have a hard time just finding colour due to the strata up there and the ever changing flows so this was a real surprise. Only spent 20 mins panning as there was still 2+ hours travelling to get home. Probably the only dude in history to get in the sh*t for coming home too early..

Nice results for not even 1/2 hour panning. Sounds like a promising spot.

Thanks Shivan. I cleaned up and did the weighed in at 0.14 mg. Pretty happy with that. I can notice a subtle difference with this gold and that is the lustre. It's definantely a shade duller than what I clean up from Beechworth in the North East. I am not sure if that's due to the composition of the area of whether it's because of the pieces are so pitted and coarse. The stream tin was very metallic with iron, lodestones and silica. Bedrock is a Mica Schist. Heading up there on Sunday

Mushmouse nice find! Have you tried boggy or prospect creek at bullumwaal? about 30 minute drive north from Bainsdale. I have had alot of success up there in them hills even without setting water flow and angles correctly and having a quick dig still come away with 100- 200 piece clean ups per run. And on a little research of the area awhile ago apparently the gold in the Omeo area has a percentage of copper in it hence the dull shine.

Hey 360 - thats a coincidence. Was only today trying to remember that area today that you speak of . I recall reading some history about it in my Ye Olde Book and its somewhere I would like to try out and well as Oallen. Thanks for the info on that gold colour. I didnt think of copper and it certainly has that very slight orange tinge. You dont notice it until you put it side on with the NE gold. Just got back from Omeo ( photo on Photo Board )from a days panning. Had a great time but hard to get use to those Silurian sedimentary rocks and the gold placement. It will sit on a clay layer with nothing above or underneath or you get 2 decent pickers behind a rock and that is all. Not even flour. Creek crevices are soft at the bottom with small potholes full of yellow/white clay that may hold a few pieces or none. I would like to go back again. It is harder to find the gold but what you can get makes it enjoyable. I just had to be prepared to move a fair bit of non-gold bearing gravels to get to it.

The 2 spots I mentioned are very good gold in almost every half pan of classified material, on a spot that hasn't been touched in a couple of years gram a day easy digging. There is alot of flour flood gold in layers but it is all close together and the deep you go the bigger the flakes and pickers. Crevicing and gravel bars have been the best for the good stuff I have found in the area. also another good creek not far up from these too spots is yahoo creek Big of a trek into it but defiantly worth the travel.

Hi guys, My wife and I are thinking of heading down round north of bullumwaal somewhere between( bullumwaal & Omeo ) at easter time, from what I can see its pretty rugged my main concern is, if the water is running in the creeks this time of year ? We took this hobby up 3/ 4 years go and to be honest we havent done very well but we love getting out camping away from the bloody phone etc and just want to find some nuggerty gold for change something that I dont need my glasses and bloody magnifying glass to see
