Hi Malau.
The Oallen crossing was still open a couple of weekends ago. So far all the road works are a little downstream from the old crossing.
Easter is probably a good time to avoid Oallen, too many tail bikes and idiots, although with the road and bridge works happening, many campers probably think it is closed.
I'm planning on being out there next Saturday, fingers crossed.

A few boofheads heading to Ophir for the Easter weekend, all welcome, no guarantee on the amount of Au but it is chunky when you do find it. Sluicing, panning, rubbernecking and detecting are the daily activities on offer. Yarn telling (information exchange), a few sherberts (your choice)and laughs will the after dark activities on offer.

Hi All, Heading down to my Fave' spot on the Mongarlowe after work on Thursday. I have the following week off so I think I'll stay until Tuesday or Wednesday. This time I'm taking the kayak as well so I can have a look further afield, sample some bars and do a bit of crevicing upstream. I'm also going to hit an area where the water slows during a flood and drops all the heavies. This place has lots of watermelon and bigger sized cobbles and is about the size of a basket ball court and about knee deep(or it was last time I was there) and last time I was there sampling I got some nice pieces and quite a bit of flower gold. It will make a nice change to dry crevicing. Of course this all depends on the river level and at the moment they are predicting rain over Fri,Sat,Sun. Maybe I need a plan "B". I'm taking the "stealthbanker" as well so I can go back to Highbanking material from the dry crevices I suppose. Wish me Luck!
Edit. I think I'll take the GMT and the Aldi special along as well.

Planning to head into the deep forest last minute plan....where I've been panning is small gold and about 10kms up the road is where the creek disappears into dense bush so that is where I'll be....sorry in Victoria cheers and Good Golding everyone. Arthur

Hi 'Super Sluicer' howd you go mate? My fokes live in Braidwood, I grew up out there, I fossick all around Braidwood, have tryed Mongarlowe several times for not much success. Tho everybody keeps telling me there's good gold out there. Are you working on private land? Ive been granted access to some private land out there, on the river, a couple of km's upstream from 'Tombarra', but its reaaly overgrown, deep water, not really sure how to tackle it with a highbanker.. Anyway, perhaps next time your heading down this way we could spent a day together..
Cheers Jed.
