G'day all, have read on another forum that recently some signs have been put up at Oallen ford stating that now it is a conservation area.... Not sure exactly where this applies to as there are a few lots down there. From what I gather the signs state no camping, fires, bikes, etc, but when someone called to enquire was told something along the lines "You can traverse the land via the tracks but, No Camping, No prospecting and no fires"
I can understand rehabilitation work needing to be done after building the new bridge, but it sounds like they are going over the top?
Before I go off on too much of a rant, has anyone heard anything, or been out there recently?

Don't know what to say. Is this REALLY Australia. I think tomorrow I'll finally wake up and it will all have been just a dream. Our "so-called" peoples elected government is trying it's hardest to become a state of China. Let's sell it all off and all you Australian folks are going to have to take to the boats. I hear Brazil is taking English speaking refugees. Oallen !!! No prospecting!!! WTF

Ahh Jeff, I was thinking along those lines, but until I get some clarification I am trying to keep calm.... May take a drive out that way tomorrow for a look if I can find the time.

Have never been up that way but was hoping to one day. Be very PO'd if it comes to that. Just had a poke around CAPAD to see whats in the pipeline. Latest N.S.W data table from 2014 has a few sites under NRS Addition - Gazettal in Progress for Terrestrial Sites. Im assuming this entry means that they are to be allocated for future management? Not sure. Anyway they are Barelli, Blue Gum High Forest, Bunnor Westholme, Gosford Coastal Open Space System, Hexham Swamp, Mawonga, Munwonga, Nanya Station, New England Tableland, Scotia Sanctuary, Scottsdale Grassy Woodland Reserve, Tarcutta Hills, Tarcutta Hills and Ukerbarley. I hope none of these cover the Oallen area or the Shoalhaven River. Co-ordinates for the above sites dont seem to be near there. You can see the complete CAPAD 2014 NSW table at www.environment.gov.au/land/nrs/science/capad/2014. Need Excel to open then click on the Detail tab.

OK I can understand that they cannot give out the name of the party who has had this restriction actioned but surely you should be able to get detailed information as to WHY and further Why prospecting within the boundaries of the water course is no longer permitted in what is historically a prospecting area. No one on the other forum seems to have questioned or even mentioned this. We know for a fact that green groups have been trying for years to restrict the area and lock it off to all recreation but this is just a bit bloody ridiculous. Cheers Ric

Ric i have not made it out there yet so am waiting clarification, but from my understanding the signs are on the high terrace, or where the top camping grounds used to be on the left facing Goulburn. The signs are apparently lands department. As stated the signs may not apply to the lots further down near the river, but feels like this may be the squeeze to get rid of people from the area. Again i can understand the need to rehabilitate the area after the building of the bridge, as last time i was out there it was a mess, but stopping camping out there all together? Conservation areas dont have anything to do with native title do they? Was just thinking about the drama when they first started planning the new bridge and there being problems due to native title claims.

Fingers crossed someone has got their wires crossed or the signs are elsewhere. Will still try and get out there to see what is going on. I also was under the understanding that the bridge was closed from the 17th of August till the 11th of September?

I still have not made it out to the Oallen, but someone I know popped out and took a photo of the sign and marked where it was placed. Right at the entrance to both the top camping sites I believe. It is not looking good...

This is pretty dissapointing if we are not aloud to prospect Oallen anymore considering it doesnt have no prospecting on the sign id be arguing the point if anybody said anything...its not leaving us prospectors in nsw many places to enjoy our hobby unfortunately it seems a case of the government having the greenies taking them from behind.. i finally decide to get into prospecting and the closest point i have to find gold and enjoy the peace of the bush seems as though its going to be taken away from us well done to the greenies..whilst the preach the conservation of the area they screw the signs into trees?? Enough of a rant but im reaĺly dissapointed by all of this

Well, think it might be time to test the rules.
Judging by where the signs are posted and what is not allowed, I'm going to try my luck. Both signs are posted on the upper terrace's. Everyone, apart some of those who camp out there, access the prospecting areas through the tracks adjacent to the river itself. Coming from the Goulburn side, you would never see those signs, so unless they actually signpost the enterance's to the gravel bars, to me it's still fair game.
I'll be out to test the rules the moment the bridge is opened.
