Yes it is a type of fluorite. It was more of a big thing for the UK, as they import the stuff now I believe.

Plenty here as well, but colour a bit variable and usually purple, green or blue. It is only hardness 4 so not much good for decorative bench or table tops or jewellery (even a $ coin will scratch it and a steel knife will carve it up). Fluorite is used in huge quantities (eg fluorohydrocarbon refrigerants in cooling systems, now banned so not worth much).
