Hi guys, here's a really short video (under 2 mins) showing how my mate was using a DIY Underwater gold viewer I made for literally a couple of bucks to be able to see the crevice base where we were prospecting so larger rocks and obstructions could be removed with ease. These underwater viewers are really easy to make and super cheap and should be in any prospectors toolkit of handy equipment. I hope you enjoy and there's a description of how I made it in one of my other videos on youtube. #gold #goldprospecting #goldpanning

I have not seen that done with a bucket before, I like the idea of getting your head in for a close look. I have seen similar ideas done with PVC pipe.

Yeah I've seen the pipe versions but I prefer the bucket I made for the exact reason you stated, you can literally get your head right in below the waterline to get up close to any obstructions whilst staying nice and dry and it gives a much larger field of view at once

I used that back in the early 1980s. Made 1 out of an ice cream container the other using an old bucket Cut the bottom out of the container leaving a rim to glue the glass to, all you need as glue is waterproof silicon. I think I mentioned about this over a year ago. But some members were thinking I was a bit of a bull s*** artist Ah well. C'est la vie. Flying Scott

yeah they are really handy tools to have, and so cheap and easy to make, i just used perspex on the base of mine so it can take a bit more of a battering compared to glass which I'd fear about smashing with the way I throw the viewer around at times
