Hi all, I use a carpet with riffles for my highbanker. The carpet is slowly wearing down after years of work and running tonnes of sand. Its done an amazing job with flour and flakes so naturally I am wanting to source the same again. Problem is - its pretty old and I've yet to find anything resembling it. I dont have contact with the person whom gave it to me - so i don't know where they got it from, or if they have anymore. I am hoping someone would have something that matches to Sell or knows what it would of been used for. The size ( it's been cut ) is 800 x 300. Few details are : It was probably made in the 1980s or possibly 1970s. There is no rubber backing or hessian weave. The back is very similar to Marine Carpet It doesnt seem like a household carpet? - more likely commercial ( office ) or industrial type, looking at the backing? It wasnt a specific 'gold prospecting' mat. Just a cut off from somewhere. The top is a Loop pile formation and the stray fibres seem like nylon, even though its been as tough as wool. Closeup photos below. Thanks in advance for any input. Top Top curved Underside Sideview

Hi, Thanks for your response and feedback. I will look into the corded carpet type or possibly miners moss when the old mat gives out. Was just hoping maybe someone had carpet like above kicking around in the shed, dog kennel, loungeroom ( I'll buy your house ) ..etc... I use a steel riffle ladder in the tray and it lays fairly snug into the fabric. I have seen some interesting designs where there is a inch wide row of raised loop pile and then a gap of shorter twist pile , then loop again. I wouldn't be able to use this as it would create a contact gap with the riffles. We had Clark Rubber here, then they closed and its now a 2hr drive away. One store I really want to get down to and check out.

*UPDATE* Finally had the chance to approach someone who was in the carpet industry for 3 generations and was quite knowledgeable and could tell me at one look. It appears what I thought was a type of carpet is actually industrial felt that was used for covering on manufacturing drums or possibly conveyance belting. He said it was quite old, soft & tough, waterproofed (yes) and will be hard to find (yes to that too). So if anyone comes across something similar in scrap or knows a possible manufacturer let me know. I was still brushing gold dust off myself and the piece has been kicking around home for 4 weeks since its last outing- so pretty good stuff. There is plenty of felt sheets available but none I can find that have the 'loop pile' on the topside.
The outdoor marine style is similar but not as pliable or soft and the loops are very tight and small. Most of the gold burrows itself safely down in this carpet felt that I use.
Unfortunately he didn't have anything like it in stock, but once he found out what it was used for, the topic got into gold prospecting that his father did and I got some tips on some spots he did well in, so it wasn't all for nowt.

Hi MM.
Have you considered using 3M Nomad matting (miners moss)?
I have heaps of offcuts that are too small for my sluices but big enough for yours, you are welcome to have some.

Hi Jeff,
Thank you for your kind offer. Are your offcuts black? (Blue would be okay too )Does it have the flat base or is it moss all the way through?

Hi Ann.
It is the proper 3M Nomad matting, pretty sure it doesn't come in black. I have had both dark blue and a lighter blue. The offcuts are from the roll of the lighter blue, still easy to see lumps of gold. There is no backing on it, moss all the way through. Very easy to clean out, even in clayey soils. Just make sure that your riffles are a tight fit.
