A few weeks ago I had some great luck finding good gold at a virgin site near Walhalla. This was in Stringers Creek opposite the old Cemetery entrance before you drive into town. Creek is on the left. This is just past the new toilet block on the entry to town.
In first day I extracted 7+ grams from under and around and big rock. Over the next 2 days my friend Andy and I used concentrators and pans for another 11 grams or so. This remarkable site yielded over 1/2 ounce of gold, my very best ever find. Gold there is coarse, nuggety and almost mercury free. You pick the pieces up with fingers, too big for snooper.
Had hoped to save this good spot to show a few select persons eg Mrs Fly when she was here. Hans / Billy / Peter/ Brian / Trevor etc - GO FOR IT, the news is out. First in best dressed!!
Yesterday, two blokes were raiding it and making a bit of a mess, when I was there. They reckoned "pity they don't have claims now eh?" I had other thoughts of claim jumpers etc. But its a public site, a free for all.
So now, as I found it initially, I would rather mates get what is left. Site suits a river sluice, concentrator and panning, not Banjo. Just enough space and water for 2-3 persons to work.
Don’t say I don’t give tips to prospectors. Enjoy, but be quick, it won't last!
Pictures of the gold found as illustrations and a picture of the site will be posted in a few moments.

Don't be discouraged, that sort of thing happens all the time and there is nothing you can do about it, you do all the hard work and someone else gets the benefit, at times I feel like doing what the law says I am not allowed to do, but where would it get me.
the biggest give away I have found to be the CAR as it sticks out like hens teeth, but where can you hide it and the other thing that gives it away, that something is happening, is your diggings, how can you camouflage it before you knock off for the day
Heath and I and at times Billy are working now on a spot for approx. 18 month for very little return, but we are hoping that we will find something worthwhile eventually, just recently some bloke turned up with all sorts of maps and old documents he has purchased from the minings department, so he says, wants to get him self a exploration license, knows nothing about prospecting and declared he is a reef miner, what is this bloke doing in our hole if he is a reef miner ?? nothing more than jumping in on our spot because he is too stupid to find his own.
so there you have it mate, I think we are all in the same boat, but thanks all the same for your offer, I for one will not go to your spot unless directly invited by you and you will be there also.
Cheers and chin up
Hans

Both Darren (reefminer) & I know a bloke who does the same thing. Tell him of a good spot, or worse still, show him, & next thing you know he is there working away with a couple of his mates, bignoting himself to them how he found this great gold spot.
What Hans says about your car & diggings giving you away is always a concern if you've found a good spot. The spot I'm going to do in the coming weeks at Eldorado is a classic example. I know there's a good amount of gold there & I'll take some photos, but they won't be posted until after I've finished sluicing the area, (which will take probably at least 6 fortnightly trips if not more), as anyone who knows Reedy Creek even reasonably well will quickly deternine the spot where the photos were taken.
As for trying to camouflage it when I'm not there will be difficult, because of where it is & how I'm going to have to work it.

That should have been even moderately well.

Mates,
I appreciate your comments and understanding. I was really pi$$ed off yesterday but my mate Andy came up with this idea. Tell everyone and invite everyone to get what there is left.
I am serious, there is still gold to be found there, so the invitation is REAL. Hope you find some before it's worked out.
I was going back to work the site until I saw these 2 raiders (as I cal them) there. I was not going to push my way in even though I had every right. I will now post a some pics of the site after the first day and some of the gold etc.
Cheers, Eugene

Guys, I have just posted some pics of the site on day 1 and day 3 as well as some gold from there.
There was still gold coming out of the site yesterday. I can't get back but you all have my blessing to go there take what you want of what is left.
With best wishes. Eugene
PS: Sadly, Mrs Fly has missed out. Hope you guys don't.

This site is right beside the road and a parked car and any prospectors are obvious to all passers-by- no hiding this one.
There was NO evidence of it having been worked in past few decades, The gold would have done old timers from the 1860s proud. I had the experience of knowing what nice gold in the pan looks like, au naturelle. I will probably never experience it again.
Hans, parking is 20m from work site! You won't even be puffed taking your kit down to the creek! No bloody blackberries either, an ideal site, except for its public exposure
Sounds like I am selling real estate! But.... I 'd rather it be to the benefit of mates.

Hi, Eugene,
Peter and I went to Walhalla a few weeks ago, and a little further. We just looked around the beautiful country side, but did not dare try our hands at prospecting as we did not know where we would be permitted to do such thing. No information was available from anywhere.
That;s what I meaan about everyone trying to keep their places a secret. Eventually someone you don't know will jump the place and it will be too late to share it with friends.
As long as we have joined AGP, and that is not so long ago, only one person has given us advise of where to go and try our luck, with a map and directions. I will forever appreciate that gesture and call that person my friend.
What is the good of proclaiming such a golding spot on an open forum? Not only your friends and members of the group will notice, but thousands of lurkers as well. You may as well put a sign up on the side of the road.
I will still find my wheight of gold in friends.

Eugene.
Great pics and good result - bring a bit of that expertise with you to Dereel mate.
Unfortunately hard work and a big smile never goes unnoticed on the diggings.
Regards.

Budgie, this expsure (as I have called it) was done for good reason as the site was identified by others already and worked by those other two who ONLY found it because I found it first and they noticed me working there or signs that I had worked there. It was almost like watching a rape scene to me. I didn't know what to do even after explaining who I was and why I was there. They didn't care! Yep, its a public site, not my land or my claim. Like most of Stringers Crk where tourists other fossickers try their hand panning in the creek I did the same. I had hoped to take the Flys there as they were visitors and work the site when I had the urge and the GAD was bad.
This way I get to expose it to everyone, although I know only those who live nearby will or can go there before the site is depleted. It will be depleted by the 2 raiders and quickly anyway. If you go there it is still there, but like everyone the gold has to be worked for. You may not be alone though as I as I found when I went to work the site there alone on Friday. Now it is not these 2 raiders secret either, its a free-for-all as it was when I found the spot.
Gold is everywhere, in friends in nature, even in the weather.
Geoff, hope I can it was largely luck although I have applied the same principles elsewhere without that success.

Eugene,
I can understand your frustrations. Like you said, a find is not your own to claim. When I lived in Coober Pedy, at least you could stake your claim and make it secure. That's what I find so different with prospecting for gold or gemstones. No matter where you go, you can not register a claim. It is either a matter of keeping the plsce to yourself or trusting a friend or two, or loosing it all because one of the so called friends has a big mouth and wants to bignote himself.
Moral of the story;
If you want it for yourself, keep it for yourself.
Cheers, Budgie
