This so far is my best opal with the sandstone trimmed off
Some of them have really nice colours

Hi Nuggethill, Did you dig the opal your self ? It is getting harder to find it in the past few years, even the smallest chips get picked up. Lab

Lab all the opal I dug in the mid 70's has all been stolen in the early 80's the last lot while I was in hospital for three months in 2012 this opal is Ethiopian well most of it with a few bits here and there L Ridge or Coober Pedy brought off Opal Auctions shame the last lot went It was in a jar that was my best opal bright colour thick seam bolder opal and lots of coloured crystal opal as well oh well such as life regards Harry

Yes Ian I had all my best set aside when the first lot of opal was pinched I thought lucky and then bugger me 30 years later my best grew legs I know sh1t happens but I've been on the wrong end of the stick for too long It's about time my luck changed this is another piece of Ethiopian opal I picked up in Feb which has just arrived
It's dark like black opal from the Ridge and has some nice colour

Hopefully you have a bit better luck from here on in, and no more of your opal goes walkabout.
Love that dark piece. Do you buy online, or just at shows?

On line at a site called Opal Auction Ian they sell in U.S.$ some I've brought for a $1.00 US and cost me 8$US to have it shipped but the really good opal sells for hundreds

They sell off cuts by the carat and there my be from 100 to 2500 carats starting at a $1.00 including Ethiopian, Coober Pedy, Andamooka , Mintabe (between Andamooka and Oodnadatta) and Lightning Ridge. As well as major bolder opal areas yes It's a great site

It has 2 cracks that join also it's 46ct stone though I know I'll get a 20ct piece or more from it just have to think about where to cut it to get the most out of the stone
