I was reading a thread earlier about a piece of Gold found that would probably end up around some ones neck on a chain. I had a 21 gram Nugget given to me by my wife it was her Grandfathers and it came from a Mine in Ballarat I don’t know which one though. If doing this be careful I had a ring attached to it and it was put on around chain and could run from one end to the other, but the problem was not ever taking it off unknown to me it wore the chain away and the nugget was lost. It was only because the chain got caught up in my belt when it dropped that I could see what had happened. It would not have been so bad if I had found the nugget but that was never likely as I have never found one. Cheers Wally

Hi Wally sorry to hear about your Wife's Grandfathers nugget. One of the main reasons this may have happened was 1st the nuggets weight 21gr and the size of the chain used to carry the nugget, it may have been to light in link size for the weight of the nugget. 2nd you can only use a 9ct gold chain as this will wear longer. 3rd you do not place a ring on the nugget, but only a wide clasp. This was told to me by a manufacture jeweler who did my wifes nugget. This nugget only weighs 7.7gr Cheers mate Nugget893
