Im going to buy a 2 tier sluice which i believe i then have to manipulate to make it into a highbanker? im new to the game so im prob getting the terms wrong. I visited the Miners Den & they have a 2 tier prospectors choice sluice that they have a 12v 2000lph pump attached too...but they recommended i buy the 2 tier without there bilge pump and buy a petrol pump...so which one? i see honda have a wx10 or a wx15 that are within my price range but is the 15 going to be too strong? i think i also have to adapt the top water bar so that i can spray the rocks more...is that why i need a petrol pump? more spraying ie more force therefore need a petrol pump? just trying to get my head around things before forking out the cash as i just wasted money on a river sluice when i realized getting the flow etc perfect in a natural river can be hard....still couldnt make those bubbles dance lol anyway and advise on horsepower or 1inch, 1.5inch, 2 inch etc etc etc & would i need to install a tap to reduce the pressure if need be or does the motor have a throttle type thing to lower pressure on it? any other brands other then honda? & finally is the 2 tier sluice just as difficult to get angle etc correct or is there a specific set of rules ie 45 degree angle etc etc ? sorry lots of questions

Carms mate if I'm correct you live in NSW, so why not get in touch with one of the boys that live there and have a look at their banjo and how they are made. It would be a lot cheaper to make one than buying, and it is more fun seeing something working that you personally made. We also have the drawings and directions on how to build them on this site under Projects & Equipment in the Workshop section. Now for the pump check out on E-bay Australia item No. 200394974921 a 2 stroke 1" pump for $220 + postage, and also 180679625776 a 4 stroke 1" pump for $280 + postage, both coming out of Victoria. This is all we use with our banjo's. You may be able to get your flat hose from them as well.

Hey Carms, I have a reasonable largish banjo and the WX15 is more than enough. If you are going to buy a Honda for a smaller Banjo then the WX10 is certainly enough pwer to move the water thru the banjo. Buy what you can afford, but I must admit the Hondas go everytime and run really quietly. I agree with Bill as buiding your own and seeing it get the gold is a good feeling knowing that you are getting the gold with it. My timber lunker takes a hell of a bashing, sometime footy sized rocks go in so the spray bar can get all the soil of them. Good luck ans hpe to see you get onto the gold soon enough. Cheers and HH Brad...

Thanks for the recommendation guys! i actually went with an aussie pumps honda with the 1" intake etc, i believe it will be more then adequate...or should i say hope! & im not too handy so building a complete set up from scratch is a bit abobve me lol...well i could prob do it but would need to buy all the tools required etc etc so it will end up pretty expensive...im sure after awhile i will want to build my own so i can have it the way i want but for the mean time i will stick to the store bought 2 tier and i may adapt a sprayer bar to it or something
now i think im reading correct but i shouldnt put an on/off tap on my sluice should i ...ie to turn the water off if the pump is still running....not good for the pump i believe? or am i wrong? just making sure i do the right thing...although i would like to add a normal hose to the system so will need to add a valve to change one from the other....so i think ill need to be a bit "handy" afterall lol

G'day carms.
When you are getting layflat hose to run your highbanker, you can't do much better than this bloke.
eBay # 110705183773
A lot of the longer term members have bought from him, & never had any problems with this hose. This hose is about 1/2 the price of what you pay in the shops even with the delivery added. I've had mine for going on 6 years & it's been dragged over rock & gravel dozens & dozens of times & is still in near new condition except for some scrape marks. It's brilliant stuff.
He also sells canvas hose, eBay # 200619252225 but I don't know what that is like as I've never used it.
And this is Paul's website.www.asiaaustraliatradingco.com/

Hi Carms As what Andy has said go through Paul and E-mail him stating that you belong to this site and he may ( just may) give you a discount. I think he has them in 40mt lengths. We cut our hoses into 1 x 20 mt, 1 x 10 mt & 2 x5 mt lengths and then put 1'' female joiners at each end of the hose. Also remember to buy screw "male" joiners so you can join the hoses together again if needs be. I hope this will help. Cheers mate Nugget893
I just got on to Pauls site and had noticed that they are now only 30mt rolls. So I would go 1 x 15 mt, 1 x 10 mt & 1 x 5 mt but the lengths are really up to you.

Awesom! Cant thank you guys enough! i will def contact him to get my permanent hoses as i have pretty much exhausted the shops around me and cant seem to locate anything suitable...closest thing was a grey water hose ...well closest thing in the 25mm size ...unfortunately i dont think he will be able to deliver it before my next trip out this weekend so i will have to find a cheapy until i can get the good ones from him would a grey water hose work? its cheap and is the right size...and when i say work i mean just for a quick trip to Hill End running the sluice for a few hours?
I will contact the guy with the hoses...who can beat a 15% discount! and having a good rep from people here really seals the deal thanks again ;D

Hi carms I would say that the hose you are planning to use right now should be OK for the time being. The idea of the flat hose is it is easier to roll up and store.

They used to actually be 20 metre lengths, nugget. So now they are longer.
The lengths I cut mine into were 1 x 10M, 1 x 5M, 1 x 3M & 1 x 2M. Plus I also have a full 20 metre hose uncut.
The reason I cut the 2 & 3 metres lengths was so I could either use them on their own or add them to one of the others to end up with 7, 8, 12, 13 metre lengths. There were quite a few times where I used the 3 metre length by itself because I was in such a tight spot (read extremely thick bush or bolders) that the 5 metre was too much hassle to try & lay it out amongst all the bush & rocks.

In relation to the members discount with Paul I was the one who originally set it up with him on our old site. DO NOT buy off ebay or you will not get the discount, see what is on ebay and what you want then email Paul letting him know you are from Alluvial Prospectors and you want to buy xxxxx with the 15% discount. If you bid on ebay you are stuck with the ebay price. Paul does quite a few trips a year to China to source stuff, if you want anything that he does not have on his site (fridges, electronics, anything etc etc etc) then let him know what you want and he will, on his next trip see if he can source the item.

This is all we use with our banjo's. You may be able to get your flat hose from them as well. HAHA, perfect thread. I actually came across this exact pump on eBay on wondered if it would be sufficient enough to run a highbanker / banjo setup and came on the forum tonight to ask advice. Seeing that some people are using them here, I'm guessing they work well enough ;D Any known issues with these pumps, or anyone had many problems that made the purchase regrettable ?? They look to be a cheap Chinese product but as a beginner, if it lasts me a year or 2 before packing it in I think I would be happy enough. I

How true Grandpa as you know I've had mine now for about 7 years and it starts first time very time just because of maintenance. You look after it, it will look after you out in the field were it counts. Nugget893
