We were prospecting for specimens in far north east S.A. last year , took this pic of an old abandoned gold mine site , poor sheep had fallen into the treatment pits , we saved 2 that were still alive & informed the property owner on the way out . I think some of that ore from there .

Beautiful specimens Bobby they were onto something to go to that extent. It would have been nice to crush and table that. Poor old sheep. One follows the other. Seen the same thing with old shallow mine shafts. Native animals fall in and die. donnybrook

Hey Bobby, One day I will show you some beautiful Wilfley Table recovery. Salt and pepper for sure but also fly crap which the old blokes lost. Cannot pan it. Don't throw away anything that goes over your sluices. Sieve down to 40 mesh (water tank strainer mesh) and when I get set up again with the table we can concentrate it and I will show you how to refine, using the CLS process and also Iodine. I don't have a hammer mill at the moment as I have been working on on other mine losses. I have rebuilt my Table but will not re riffle it out until I move expensive bits of timber. donnybrook or don

Bobby, Just keep what you cannot process. Looks good Bobby. The only way to assay some ores is to crush then cone and quarter. The cone could be 6 inches high or six meters. Take one sample from each quarter and mix (*four times) . Not sure what those pits were the sheep were in. Were they tar lined??? I don't want anything Bobby too much to do myself. If you ever want a hand let me know. That "S" poop looked good. donnybrook

Don the pits had to much dirt & dead animals to see any tar on the bottom . When I can get back to that area I'll check the other mine spots as there was ruins some distance away see pic ..
