Hi all yep I’m back, boy what a few days I have had! This trip was not so much a highbanking type of trip but more like find a new spot type of trip. A lot of walking panning and river crossing was done I went to areas I have not been to for 10 years or so. Funny how time plays tricks with your memory areas are never the same as you recall them, I guess that is why a trip journal is so important.
I spent yesterday and last night at Quinnys Wheel near Oallen Gully. That area has seen some work in the past but I was getting 10 to 15 rather largish specks per pan the gold in this area is about twice as big in size when compared with Oallen Ford gold. My work was stopped due to rain after lunch had I spent a full day in this spot I feel I would have got 2 grams for my trouble. The walk into this area is rather steep and would be very hard with a large pump I had my little one hp and felt the climb on the way out. Over all I would recommend this area but you need to work back towards the bank starting where the rough & fine sand meet working between the slat bars into the rough sand area.
My new tent worked a treat in the rain, I had a tarp made up to go over the top of the tent, which gave me enough shelter in the light drizzle rain, I am very pleased indeed with the end setup I am now running.
PS Chrisso is down from QLD I am running him out tomorrow Golding. James

What a wonderful pics and account of your most recent scouting trip away and the new tent. Mate the fly you made looks juyst right providing extra cover and place outside to have a hot cuppa out of the rain. Nice set-up with a lite card table cooka, folding chair, washing basin. Basic, but comfortable. Wind, strong wind, is your biggest enemy...more guy ropes I guess, eh?
" Funny how time plays tricks with your memory areas are never the same as you recall them, I guess that is why a trip journal is so important." (quote) How very true. It happen when I go back to Orange, Ophir and my old childhood haunts..... it has all changed so much. Never done a journal but a good idea. Maybe I am too old to begin that now.
Great post James, Eugene

Never to Old mate never. The wind is a concern I used bungie cord { I think that’s how it’s spelt} in the eye lets with the guy ropes attached to the cord. Works well gives in the wind and returns when the wind stops. Cheers mate James

G'day James,
Good stuff mate. Did you CARRY in all that gear (tent etc)?
I didnt get away golding this last weekend. Went 4X4 ute hunting as my old girl is going to have to be laid to rest. Bit sad really as she has been a good old beast. Taken me to many a goldfield & home again. Also taken me to some bloody great spots that have had nothing to do with gold but just great off road adventures.
The rust is taking hold reather badly now & I have been lucky with my last few warrants. Trouble living at the beach with the salt atmosphere & the old girl living outside all her life. I owned her for the last 13 years & she just clicked over 400,000ks & in all those years I have only changed one clutch & one blown head gasket. Good old 2000cc petrol motor. Toyota hilux dual cab with a full size (single cab) tray fitted. A one of a kind as the bloke who had her before me was a panel better & he stretched the chassis to fit the full length tray.
My dilema now is do I replace her with a dual cab with the shorter tray that dual cabs have or go to a single cab to maintain the full length tray?? Bloody bugger. There is the king cab option or fit a luggage rack to a dual cab.
Any way....that is my mission at the moment & there wont be much change from 15-20K. DAMN!

Mate when your Ute nears the end of the road, its like saying good buy to an old mate. I know how you must feel the little Ute I drive is going the same way and within a short time must be replaced. As you say it is sad they become very much part of you I feel. The spot in the photos I could drive too the photo of the river and beyond is one area where I took a little stroll. Cheers mate James
