hi i am getting into sluicing and live in the northern rivers and want to go over to the drake area but cant find much info other than a basic map of australia showing areas but not very descritive. i panned a bit around bright/ harrietville growing up but i always went to the same 2 spots and always found a flake or two. can anyone point me in the right direction? what are good rivers/creeks to try? if anyone knows of any farmers who is happy to let sluice and or let you camp by the water? also if anyone can point me towards were i can find out were gold was found around here and if possible the gold coast? thx

G'day
I've poked around in that area and your best place to start is Rocky River. Head east through Drake and about 1.5-2km out of town is a turn to the right called Long Gully rd. Head down this for about 23-24km. You'll pass a few small camp sites but then you'll see one about 500m long next to the river, one of the best camp spots around ;D. The whole area is still leeching fine gold out of deep leads so there is flood gold in most spots and in the river. I love the place.
Cheers

oh ........... hang on so i can fossick in the areas that are not state forest as long as they are not private property and if they are forest i need the bit of paper . i have not been south of the border yet so still working out where i can and cant go for a bit of panning . and its hot and its late and my internet keeps dropping out . lot different in nsw than it is in qld . and while i have your attention what is the bit of tech equipoment that most are using for running maps and such in the field as in , lap top , note book , ipad , tablet . i need to get a mobile type device for running google earth and so on just like to know what most people carry with them on a trip . johno
