I have not had any success detecting on the south coast ( only 4 trips) but have met a few people who have done well. There is gold around.

I don't have a detector at the moment, still considering what to buy and if it is worth the effort. Have looked at a minelab 5000 and one of Jack Langes setups From what I have researched there are a small handful of gold sites down here that might be worth a look If you guys are located near Bega let me know and we will might catch up for a cuppa

I am a bit further away from most fields being at Nowra, though we make trips down Mogo and Nerragundah. There is still some promising ground, though it seems to be overgrown and hard to get to. A pan or sluice could be a cheaper way to start finding some colour. If you want to get into the detecting side, minelab would be the way to go, the 5000 is a great machine but the SDC2300 may also be worth checking out. There are other decent detectors for less, but most serious gold detectors seem to go with minelab.

LOTS of empty shell casings around mogo. The area was used for military training it seems, We have found around 200 casings and so far no gold.

I have been able to purchase a Garret ATX and have had a bit of a look around on the beach and on an old farm. Have not found anything other then the odd ring pull, a match box toy and a few cans. Still learning how to use it and get the settings right Wil check out some of the old mines near me and and maybe head out west Nsw one day soon Can't wait to get on the gold fields and see what it can do

begakid Doug Stone has just finished his new prospecting atlas on NSW and it will be release in November. It has the latest info in it and where you are aloud to go with the present NSW law. I have seen the new atlas and "What a Great Job". Anyone that lives in NSW and prospects should get one. Lots of gold fields that I did not know that existed. nugget893

Hi Begakid, If you know anyone that has property on the Princes Hwy at Wolumba it is worth a go..... right on the edge of the highway between wolumba and potarui(spellcheck) zoo. There is a nature reserve there you dont want to be in there as there is a good chance you will be caught thats why i ask about property owners. You could also try the lawlers creek/whittakers creek area just north of narooma
Good luck
Paul

Thanks Paul I will give it go once this weather sorts itself out. Have tried Tathra beach a couple of times but only found rubbish so far. The machine is very sensitive as I have found out and I am still trying to get used to the settings. Picked up a bobby pin about a foot in the sand the other day. Tried to find the Vimy Ridge mine on Sunday without any luck but a friend of mine knows where it is so will take him out there one day soon. I will see if I can get one of those maps that Nugget has mentioned. Hope you have had some luck Bryson
