Have been told to head to Uralla. Not sure where to go! I usually spend a few hours around Nundle and only have a river sluice. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! Better gold??

Yes. I visit the public fossicking area when I'm in town to visit my relatives. Avoid the sandy banks at the pools next to the main camping area and go upstream or downstream. Gold is fine flour-like gold. Also to be found are sapphire, zircon and topaz. A few pictorials of my efforts. alluvialgprospectors.proboards.com/thread/6393/uralla-nundle-november-2013alluvialgprospectors.proboards.com/thread/6625/uralla-april-2014Equipment is restricted to hand-tools, so a highbanker is not a good idea. One fellow spent a few weeks in the area and recovered several ounces. Private land can be quite good, I've read some encouraging stories about the gold still being captured from the hillsides of the former mining operations.

Thanks Cronicbadger. I might have to check it out next weekend! So there isn't any running water for a sluice? Just good old hard work panning?

There is often running water at several spots at rocky drops draining the larger pools. I don't sluice there, and am not a local, so don't know if it is sufficient flow. There are two areas I can think of that water may run: 1) Where the river narrows on the other side of the hill next to the main parking area. 2) Further upstream where it flows into the long deep pool out of the scrub.

I too have been to Uralla a few times now. Cronicbadger's advice is spot on, though unsure why no highbanking? We only panned ourselves but saw others highbanking and did not see any signs indicating no pumps but could be wrong. Have had some nice gold, a few nice zircon and some small sapphires from that area. Just keep an eye out for big black and brown snakes in the long grass near the creek, as there was a monster near where we were digging last time.
