I use what I had for watering the trees in the garden, a 2 inch Honda, I think it is 3.5 hp. it is old maybe 15 years plus, starts first time every time, I have it on idle, and I mean idle, and have 2 inch to the HB and 1 1/4 line going over there to get rid of the excess water, that has a tap as it takes a little to much away. Shame as if I was next to you, it would feed your HB as well. It is quiet and runs for nearly ever on a small tank of fuel. Lab

Depends how small small is? have you considered an electric pump? 12V Battery, or solar, or battery in conjunction with solar. Flying Scott.

Flying Scott funny you put that up, I was avoiding mentioning, I can run the Angus Kirk to do testing with one 12v 2000 GPH, just enough water, so if I want to processes any quantity, I use 2 2000 GPH just ok. I have been trying a 240 one inch, pump, and not bad at all, but need a generator, min 1.5 kva. and I think it is a forward wound motor, some thing to do with start up. I don't know enough to say more on that, but a .5 kva gen, keeps throwing out, it will run the pump for a minute or so, but through s the breaker. I was thinking if I go camping and have to take a petrol motor a generator will do two jobs, as in run the lights at night and a forward wound fridge. A 2 kva is recommended for any thing else. Rember my sluice is not a high banker, I converted it to do that, and the Angus dosent need a lot of water, like some HB's. Now I know why I did not say this befor, my head hurts already. Lab

My 2 cents - I bought a Thornado 2.5hp little over 12 months ago. I admit I'm a bit hard on machines or so peeps tell me. The pull start pulled the pin a couple of months ago - no problem I now just use a piece of cord (I see you can by new replacements thru their website. But last week the gasket between the carby and the engine block came away leaving me pumpless - hoping a bit of gasket goo will do the job later this week. Otherwise runs quiet and have had no problems in regards to actual operation - would happily buy another

Thanks for all the info guys, it's a petrol pump I'm after as I found the electric pump that came with it was inadequate for cleaning the dirt off the rocks properly.

The Ozito from bunnings works a treat. Only downfall is the noise, but if that's not a big concern well worth it.
