Hi, I was just wondering if anyone is in the South East Qld area and if they would be willing to show a 12 year old boy (and myself, his mum) how to prospect / search for gems please ? My son has aspergers which makes it hard for him to socialise but he is a polite and well mannered boy. He is home schooled and he is very interested in learning how to find gems etc. My father was a gold miner (by hand) in Far North Qld but he passed away before he could teach my son or myself so I was hoping someone would be kind enough to help us out. We are country folk who have no problem with 'roughing' it and enjoy camping out and getting dirty. I am willing to pay for your time, and we are happy to travel occasionally.

Hi Louisak, I don't know to much about your aria, but there is a gem club in Gympie, 3 Bruce highway, and gold around the Murgon aria. The information on this forum and goggle should help get you started, and I believe that your son would fit in to a club like the gem clubs, most of the learning is one on one and very patient teachers, the work is very reparative and precision is required. And the field work is for people who enjoy there camping and out doors. There is quite a few fossickers around your way, and if you can get to tag along with some one, it will be a massive short cut to getting started. happy hunting Lab

Its a bit cold at the moment but we usually head on out to Warwick area for gold. Good camping and nice surrounds. I have 2 boys and the youngest has aspergers too, he puts on a bit of a turn when we head bush but eventually he calms down and gets ready for the hunt. Not for gold though, he is on the hunt for skeletons as he is fascinated in bones of different animals. Glendon is a great place for camping and to get away from the rigours of everday life. Alex is 11yrs old and has a bigger brother, they do enjoy the bush chasing the odd yabby also. Good gold is still to be got out there, just got to be patient and you will be rewarded.
Cheers Brad.
