I was just wondering does the water flow all the time and how far from Bendigo is the creek and does anyone from Bendigo go there it would be great to go there on my next lot of days off and do some highbanking

If you mean Reedy Creek near Beechworth - its around 3 hours from Bendigo. It flows all year (except in severe drought- then just pools ). Still plenty water to pump for high banking this season.

Hey Mushmouse, I'm fairly new to this game and I have heard mention of "this season" before but what does that mean exactly? Are you refering to a drought and no water? or is there really seasons to go prospecting? Also thanks for the heads up with Reedy creek, I too wasn't sure what the yearly flow rate was there, its good to know its pretty hearty. I would hate to drive all that way to find a dry creek bed I too am very keen to do some highbanking there and chase some colour

G'day Madhatter,
I used the term 'season' as just an indicator. Pretty much from late Spring, through Summer to early Autumn. After that the water can get too high and cold to be much fun. The last big drought around here was 2003 and the creek got down to 0.8mm in Feb. There was no 'flow' but regular deep pools were along the water course. It was the surface creek bed that dried up. I got some of my best gold takings that summer, as it was easy access to centre creek gutters that yielded some really good deposits that were usually under water.
Here is a chart I made from data that is from the 5 year period from 2011 to 2015 of Reedy Creek that shows monthly flow readings that you or others might find interesting. As you can see - it flows all year round. ( 2012 copped a massive rain fall for March - that would of brought down some nice gold no doubt... )

G'Day Chris t Woolshed road runs all the way along reedy creek does not matter which way you come from beechworth or eldorado. If you are coming from bendigo i would go though eldorado then follow reedy creek towards beechworth. cheers lonewolf.

Hi Chris, yes as Lonewolf said. And there is still quite a bit of dry wood laying around, enough for camping over a few days. The water is still running and waist deep in some of the deeper pools. Bring fresh water for drinking/cooking/washing up as the creek is a bit grotty.

Hi Chris. Nice to hear you enjoyed the place and got yourself some gold. Yep there is always going to be that element that will p*$$ on the matches and ruin it for everyone. I personally haven't seen any in action but the regulars on ground have passed on photos and rego's to Parks, so hope something comes of it.
