Hi All, I went out to the caravan and camping show at Rosehill recently and met Warren from NQ explorers at the Garrett display. The discussion inspired me to get the GMT out and do a bit of detecting where I usually would hit the crevices or highbank. The results were surprising. I unearthed heaps of old timers trash, lots of copper tin and lead sheet but surprisingly no bullets. I detected the button outside the front door of an old timers dry stacked stone miners hut. The silver nugget was found wedged between 2 rocks in the wheel track of a road I have driven over 100 times. The Chinese coin was found about 10 meters from the nugget just off to the side of the track in amongst about 20 nails of all shapes and sizes and other trash. I'm afraid to clean the coin. As you can see it's very fragile and extremely worn and has a few cracks as well. Maybe I should get a gpx5000 and give it a good go. "To be a prospector is to be in some degree Possessed"

Just a little trick I picked up with the coins give them a soak in olive oil never use WD40 as it will clean the coin down to the metal and if you want to wash them up use mineral water and a tooth brush

I brought many Chinese coins a long time ago and just looked one up a Shao-Sheng but not marked as a Shao - Sheng , found out it had the wrong date on the coin slip cover it had 500 - 586 ad the matching coin on that site had 1094 - 1097 ad that's a big difference in dates thanks Backcreek for the great post

Hi backcreek, I am familiar with Little River and I have done lots of research of that area recently, those coins are most probably from the 1870s due to chinese miners around that area in the old Gold Rush days. I have relatives who live near that spot thats why I have taken interest in that area. Anyway, nice find. I will be heading up that way in Winter time to do some detecting myself, the place is full of snakes,so Winter time is the only time I will prospect there.
