Had to make the awful decision to put my much loved and beautiful natured cat Morris to sleep a few days ago. Old age and illness had taken his quality of life away. Seems each day gets harder with all the 'firsts' without him - and there are many as he was always by my side, giving me hugs or waiting for me in the driveway to arrive home. No matter what I was doing he had to be part of it and working on projects he was always there to 'supervise' ( and accidently on purpose sit on the tool bits to hide them) or chatting away while I was cleaning gold and little head butts to let me know he loved his 'mum'. When it was time to knock off and go in -it was a ritual of an agreeing 'meow' , a big stretch, a reach up with the arms to be picked up and carried inside to the house with appreciative purrs and face smooches. Could walk fine but loved the ritual of many years.
With the help of the vet, we got to say Goodbye at home exactly where he would of wanted to be. Over looking his beloved back yard on a summer evening with me by his side.
Leaving the shed this evening with empty arms was heartbreaking. Miss you little man.
RIP Morris - 1/5/2001 - 11/1/2017

Hello Ann, Sad to hear your lost your furry friend,I am sure you will miss him and when you look behind and he is not there, will happen for a long time. Your love and bravery to do what you had to do, and stay with Morris to the very end, is not some thing most will do. You and Morris will always be together.

I'm sorry for your loss as I know how you feel losing a pet when we lost our cat my wife was having trouble getting over the loss as she love her "Ginger" cat very much what could ease her pain now we have a replacement cat called "Smokey" who has settled into a new life That might be the key Ann as it worked for my wife.

Thank you all for you kind words and support. For a little guy he sure took up a big part of my life. Today I went out to the country and bought a nice sleeping cat stone garden ornament to put on his grave and I keep a candle burning beside a framed photo. It helps the healing. One day I believe I will find another little 'Morris' to pick me..

I feel awful not seeing this before, sorry Ann. The memories you have of Morris will stay with you for the rest of your life. It's hard losing a furry friend after so many years. Even now, 6 years after Pippin passed away aged 16, I think of her every day, & reasonably often have sudden thoughts of some of the little things that happened during her time with me. I'm sure it will be the same for you. R.I.P Morris.
