Here is some of what ive got left from last summers work, Boulder opal Mixed solids doublets and triplets, mostly mintauby on sandstone. some are unfinished. Just over 200cts of aussie saphire in mixed colours collected in the field while gold prospecting. The end result 5mm X 4mm cabachon highlights.

Wow Wee, Pilchard, absolutely fantastic!
Did you cut & polish the stones yourself?
I think I'm going to start saving the interesting rocks in my pan.
Cheers

Gee there's some beautiful colors in there. I really like those deep electric blues.
Do you travel to the Gem shows Pilchard?
Cheers Ric.

I havent been to a gem show for a couple of years. I started cutting for myself as a hobby and it sorta took off from there. i do most of my cutting in summer when its 2 hot to have a dig.

Hi Pilchard,
This is off topic so don't jump on me toooooo hard.
Your photo of "Form one Planet" has been bugging me since I first saw it. Is it the sign at the top of the dual lane as you head south from the old Raleigh bridge on the old Pacific Highway ??
I saw it on Sunday and I racked my brain trying to remember the other one. Here it is on your post.

Hi Pilchard,
Back on topic!!!
Great photos.
I was experimenting last weekend with a scanner and some of my gemstones. The sapphires etc came out fairly well but the nuggets didn't due to their size. The small gold from panning also came out fairly well. I tried my digital camera on the nuggets but need to do some more experimenting.
I will post them on here in the near future.
regards

The avatar is a computer generated sign, sorry, found a sign and added the P & T, goes back to an environmental guest lecturer, David Suzuki i think his name was, 10 years ago, and we thaught it funny to deface public road signes in his name and the name of a united world.
i havent had time to post any more pics lately, got some nice white quartz and moon stone pics coming.

Hi, pilchard, Great opals you have there. Makes me want to cry that I don't have a cutting plant anymore. I too used to cut and polish my own stones. Long story, but not for this thread. Thanks for sharing your treasures with us. I will get Peter to take photos of the few Coober Pedy opals I have left. Love the boulder opal. It's unique. Budgie

howdy budgy, Iv been cutting a bit of boulder lately, not so much the precious opal but the picture stones, they are very fulfiling to free form and not be restricted by calibrated cabachons

Hi Tor I'm no gem expert but to give you an idea, A cabachon is a stone which has been "shaped"such as shaped & polished into a "dome" as opposed to a faceted stone which is one that has been "cut" to show it's faces. Cheers Ric
