G,day all,
Yes I am another newbie and retired in Vic. Had the bug 30 years ago . Had a Whites 5000D and built a trammel 4ft x 2ft dia, all alloy with a s/steel liner alloy frame on 18'' dirt bike wheels, spent a bit of time around Maryborough and Amherst , I found a trammel has it's limits as to the dirt you can put through it up in the Vic gold fields, any clay just turns into a large clay ball.
I though of a much better plan at the time and that was to build a sealed box trailer, cut a hole in the centre of the floor at the back with a skid plate out to each side and hang a sluice box under the back of the trailer, with a 5 HP pump and a fire hose fitted you can break down all the clays you want, with the trailer you can pick up your wash dirt from all over and take it back to the many small dams still on the goldfields that should be full now. I will leave it to you younger ones. And the trailer has the second use at home.
Now 30 years on the “bug is back” big time,it will be another 6/9 months before I can get into it I think, to much on my plate just now. House is on the market so will have to move and set up again and fit in 4 week in hospital in the new year and time to get over that. Plans for after that are to fit out my 7m Hino RB145 bus into a motorhome and tow my Rocky behind it for getting around prospecting, a minelab detector and a jack hammer plus a 2kva gen, the gen will also be used for the motorhome, and other DIY projects to build a small high banker all alloy other than a thin non magnetic s/steel riffle bar and using alloy expanded mesh as well any nuts and bolts will have to be non magnetic also.
As I will be using the banjo in the southern highlands I think I will need to use a strong magnet to clean out behind the riffles from time to time so no steel in the project, same goes for the next DIY project a drywasher ( dryblower) I am well into the plans for these projects thanks to the internet and I have many good tips in the posts on this forum so many thanks to all. I am looking forward to getting into it again and down trak once I am on the road running into some of you out there
