Just tried out our new Coleman duel fuel ( twin mantel)lantern this weekend at the N,east PMAV fieldtrip to Nariel Crk .
What a ripper! I had been putting off buying one because of the price ($149 aud), but have found the versatility, ease of operation, light shed and the cost of fuel for extended stays in the bush more than offsets the cost of purchase. They will run on either unleaded or shellite ( I use ULP) and for 12hrs on high used less than a litre of go juice. Mantels are about 4 dollars for a twin pack. If you are sick of carting around gas bottles for your camp lighting get one of these, you will not be disappointed.
Cheers jethro

Hi Jethro,
I've had mine for about 10 years now and I loved it so much I went and brought the duel fuel stove (3 burner). Had it about 3 years and wonder why I'd not done it sooner, I can boil a billy full of water in about 2 mins. they are much hotter than gas. I get a three week trip out of less than 5 litres of ULP for both cooking and lighting. It now leaves all the gas bottles for the fridge. Glenn

G,day R,g
The petrol cooker sounds like the way to go when my old 2 burner primus stove gives up the ghost.
The next purchase will be a fridge of some sort due to the fact that we ran out of ice last weekend and a 65km round trip makes a block of ice that little bit too expensive and an economical fridge the way to go.
Have you any suggestions?
cheers Jethro

A question for those who use or have used the dual fuel stoves - does the unleaded petrol give off a bad smell ? ie; fumes - perhaps similar to a car exhaust but less copious ?
I have been considering buying a lantern and/or stove for a while, but the above consideration has made me consider other options.
Regards,
Lance

Hey Lance, i have both a Coleman duel fuel stove , and a coleman dual mantle light ...and they kick serious but...the stove , as mentioned is way hotter than my home gas cooktop and the dual mantle light is like 200 watts of BRIGHTNESS....
But to answer your concern, i never ever use Petrol in mine and only run Shellite......no real smell at all and i was actually told that the unleaded can cause a build up in the stoves transfer tube and possibly block it up.....just what i was advised of course ..might not be true, but yes...no Smell ! And still runs for ever and ever....i love my Coleman camp gear......never lets me down and no cylinder to lug around...so go for it, they are pricey , but they last and are very good....enough said i reackon ! Cheers Anthony
