Is tanzanite the same family as saphire? I have a tanzanite rough to get cut. No idea how hard it is.

I havent cut it before but ill find out for u. Its a pretty rare gem. VS grade are worth in excess of AU$500 a carat.
Has it been heat treated eg Blue or is it untreated Brown
Tanzanite is a blue variety of the gemstone zoisite. It consists of calcium aluminium silicate and is not particularly hard, having a value of 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale. For that reason, it should always be worn carefully and never placed in an ultrasonic bath for cleaning or brought into contact with acids.

Thanks mate, I gave it uncut to a mate who's going to have it cut professionally and then we'll see about what kind of setting we can put it in.
