I decided to get the rotapan out today for a try out in the wa desert. I had a couple groups of detectorists walk by with sceptical looks , told me I had no chance as there was hardly any gold left around here. And thought the idea of a pan in the desert was quite ridiculous. I put 3 x 10 liter buckets thouhg and specked a nice 0.08 nugget in the trap, I havent done the concentrates yet but am quietly confident of the results.

Well done mate. ;D
Those detectorists sound clueless. I suppose if they are not finding fist sized nuggets, they'll try to put others off by saying there's no gold left there.
Panning in the desert is ridiculous? Give me a break! Haven't they ever seen dryblowers in WA. What you got is what the dryblowers get & from what I know, they can get a lot.
I've had the same thing said to me in the Triangle here in Vic, but I just ignore people like that & they soon wander off & leave me in peace again to do my thing.
