G'day all, I recently got myself a blue bowl to play with I am going to get a blige pump and hose tomorrow but had a question. In alot of the recirculating systems ive seen for these there has been a T connection just off the pump. Iam wonering why , i sort of guess its for when the gate valve is closed? but if this is so when the gate is open why would the water go up the hose and not out the other end of the T Any pointers would be great

Well got myself a 800gph bilge pump and a 12v portable jumpstart kit (figure it may come in handy caming and out bush) to run my blue bowl. I did get a T fitting but need another connection to use it so i just set up for a quick run straight from pump to bowl. I only had a teeny tiny bit of black sand in my snuffer bottle but thaught id give it a go. To my suprise there was still 2 big specs and a whole heap of small stuff in it. While there was still a small amount of black sand left as well it was much easyer to get the gold out after dumping what was left into a porcelen bowl. Setting up The 12v power A few blurry pics in action My make shift measurements Would still like to try with the T fitting on to se if i can get a smoother flow, but that will wait till ive been out highbanking again

Nice going on gettin the bowl going mate . I had been thinking of getting one as concentrates are a real problem and I cant fit a wave table in my caravan ., approx how much material did you put in it? and can you post a pick once you have tried to feed a bucket full into it? Cheers Diggerdude

G'day Diggerdude, The consentrate i put thru would not even have been 1/4 of a tea spoon, i was just the real heavy black sand i had left after panning, allmost washed it out but decided to keep as i wanted to have something when i set the bowl up ;D all our other concentrates were accidently washed out last time out Will be heading out to Oallen this saterday so i should be able to take some more photo's with a bit more material sunday ..... providing we dont get washed out

Well after getting a bit more material to run thru the bowl i have run into a few problems. 1. Classification- I found that iam ment to be screening 100 mesh 50 mesh and 30 mesh and running all these differently. My problem is i only have a 1/32" mesh screen atm while i have been getting the larger flakes i can see some of the larger grains of sand knocking the smaller specs out the middle, and if turned down there was too much material left in the bowl. 2. Flow speed- the gate vale that comes with the bowl is a pain in the bum very touchy and hard to get the water lvl set. Iam trying to address these issues by adding a gate valve further down the hose and by trying a Tee connection near the pump Iam saving all the material that goes thru so i can re run after i get some finer screens. will try and post some more pics later.

;D ;D Hi Ian. Sounds like you are having some real FUN with the blue bowl. Are you beginning to understand why mine is at the bottom of the Tumut river I will have to bring the miller table out and show you just how easy it is to use and how well it seperates the black sand from the gold. Jeff

G'day Jeff, yea i can see where you are coming from ;D I didnt think it was gonna be too easy, but iam figuring out a few things as i go. The Tee connection did just what i predicted and blew water out the open end of the Tee insted of up to the bowl, i just dont get it www.iowagold.com/HOWTOPAGES/how_to_run_a_blue_bowl.htmThe gate valve lower down has given me a little easyer flow control tho. I have also figured out after much trial and error how to feed it. I found about 2 tea spoons round the outer edge of the bowl while it was off was the way to go, no idea how ppl feed it while it is on way too messy. Also not a good idea to dump the 2 teaspoons right in front of the outlet I should also probably say that i forgot to pan my concentrates down as well so there has been a stack of unwanted blonde sand in my consentrate. Pre screen after screen Feeding from in front of nozzle around the edge feed. The result so far I do think i lost some gold in my bucket thru my learning curve but think with another 2 screen and half an idea how to feed it now i will retry the material at a later date.
