Hi guys. Going to castlemaine for the second week of the school holidays with another family. was wondering if anyone could tell me a reasonable spot to go to pan with the families and kids. Never been there before. Yes i know people don't tell of spots and to go and research. I have no idea on this one.
Your help would be appreciated. ;D Jamie

G'day I did a fair bit of panning around Fryerstown (not far from Castlemaine) as a youngster in the 70's. Most of the creeks in that area hold some sort of gold and there are miles of old workings. Castlemaine was a sort of hub or gateway to the local goldfields. Wish I could be of more help and good luck Cheers Chimpy

Jamie Castlemaine rock is a type of hard candy they are famous for. As kids we used to hike from Fryerstown to a mineral water spring that I can't for the life of me recall the name of, all the creeks in between were worth a pan. hope this helps
Cheers

Jarrahrules try Chewton along Golden Point Road, there is a creek on your left hand side of the road, up about 2.5 km. Chewton is an outer suburb of Castlemaine and Golder Point Road is about 5. km from Castlemaine on the Pyrenees Hwy. If you go to Google maps and look at Golden Point Rd Chewton you will see the creek and how far it is from Castlemaine. I hope this will help and have fun with the family. Remember to watch out for snakes they are out right now up that way and being up near a creek they will be close by. cheers nugget893
