Came across a link telling of an opportunity to make money from black sands. The miners guide to black sands by Phil Mason businessopportunitiesexpo.com/BusinessOpportunities/How-to-Profit-from-Black-SandAfter a couple of hours of searching and ending up with failed links, and even attempting to purchase it and not receiving the e-book, still cannot find a copy of it. Actually inclined to think it may be a scam. Does anyone have the book and if so, can you comment on it ?

I'm new to the forum. There are ways to treat black sands. Never throw them out. I have advised people on another forum in America. It is a leaching system supposedly used in Mexico using over the counter non cyanide chemicals. I would strongly not recommend that anyone does this without some chemistry background and the proper safety equipment. Its not for the novice. I will not therefore publish anything on this forum. I have been involved with gold since I was a young boy up at Hillend. I wrote a book titled "The Gold Pan,Places to Go,Things to do" which can be found on Google. I furnace and refine my gold to get the so called four nines.I do have a private email address you could contact me on. There are a number of other sites on the internet that offer alternate ways to treat black sands. I like to see the brown powder go in and turn yellow.

G'day donnybrook and welcome to the forums I have read a few bits and pieces about refining black sand to get all the micron gold out of it but have never tryed myself yet, most methods i have read are just about heating the black sand then cooling it quickly to break any gold away from the black sand. The link percaf mentioned seemed to me to say there may be other minerals/metals in the black sand that companys may buy cant see that myself, but iam no expert thats for sure I will have to hunt round see if i can find a copy of your book sounds like its worth a read ;D

Hello Shivan, The late Mr Williams (in the USA) talked a bit about the redox theory and a about the halides within his writings referred to as Basement Chemistry. Action Mining in the United States have a book on leaching. It cost me about $80-00 all up when I purchased it with postage. A lot of micron gold is in the form of sulfides (Gossans) then there is gold that is attached to iron. When meshed down you have to roast it on a sheet of iron or home made roaster. However you must be careful if there is mercury present. Many have seen gossans when metal detecting. There was a lot around Sofala. If you crack it you will usually smell the sulfur. Go onto the Gold Prospecting Forum in the USA and look for posts by donnybrook. Again always consider your safety. Do anything outdoors and out in the bush.
I was reading on this Forum recently about gold in Braidwood. I live in the Little River Goldfields. I have just returned from the old Half Moon workings down Half Moon Road Mongarlowe with my prospecting mate. You need a four wheel drive to get you there. You will come to Feagans Creek and might find along the creek the old brick tunnel that they built to divert the water so they could get into the gold on the bottom.
Braidwood by the way was gazetted by the Minister more than ten years ago as a fossicking area. With some research (perhaps the Ministers Office?) you can find out more.
Majors Creek,Warrambucca etc are all on private property so you might not get on. You will always run into people that don't like what we do or they will say "I'm going to do it one day myself".
