Sleeping gear! Just a simple question on what type of set-up you are using. What would be your recommendation for people just starting off? James

A decent swag...
I use a king single canvas swag...rolls up and takes very little space, easy to chuck on the top of anything and strong enough to handle being squashed...
Its made by AOS and is the bushman model with a 50mm mattress...
Bought my son a swag too, its a single but a tent style, came with post and ropes...
Made by OZtrails....
both where about $200 or less each...

Like the others, for inland camping I just take my swag which is unbeatable under a crisp, clear sky. It is well padded extra wide and has fleecy liner. Made in SA. I use my NZ 30 yo down sleeping bag in it when its extra cold. I wear a beany as if it's a crisp night. Otherwise if its frosty you can have frost / ice on your head.
Recently I also discovered the virtues of a quality stretcher. Mine is a military SAS type, Al framed one, wide, strong, light. Not cheap, even second hand. Swag sits on it nicely. I'm out like a light when it hit that. Takes up a bit of extra space and weight but not much, it just folds out. Extra comfort guaranteed in the bush. Keeps you off the ground if it gets a bit wet / dewy shoes and other gear are under it, out of the way.

I use a stretcher, swag and -10 sleeping bag, in winter, summer it is up on the back of the ute with the swag. James

Gee, I wonder what Mrs Fly uses? Maybe same as those that sleep in caravan use? Double bed & doonas I suppose. I look forward to that when I get home. Eugene

Hey Eugene, all...
I use a feather/down doona in my swag, and when its not so hot, i just cuddle it instead...
Feather/down doona and swag can be so comfy, gets hard to get out of the comforts when its daylight...

Ahh now would be nice, I like spiders...
My home is full of them, well not quite but I have my little pets...
Got this big house spider in the toilet, he lives on the window ledge...
I thought I killed her when I had a friend stay and her dogs introduced fleas, so i bombed the house(only time i will use chemicals)...
But no, she is still there...
Chemical free home, and no flies or ants or even cockroaches(which i hate)...
But lots of spiddies....

Eugene, Your dead right.
Have you seen our camp bed - it's a beauty! Mr Fly made it. The bed frame makes the frame for the trailer. We have a self inflating matress and the bed is more comfortable than the one at home. I like to be off the ground because of the crawlies. I will have to take a pic of it one day to put on here.
Hey Kath, we have something in common. My place is full of spiders too. George the trapdoor lives in the front garden. He's been there for years. I love to show him to new visitors. I get a piece of grass and tap on his door and it flies open and out he jumps and the visitors scream and jump backwards - it's a great joke. Also in Spring the birds collect all the spider webs to make their nests with. I love spiders they are real smart - when they've finished with their mate they eat them.
Cheers
Mrs Fly
