Hi All I got out yesterday to give my sluice a bit of a test run, I ran out of time to try a few things out as I had to pick up my kids from school. All comments welcome, there are a few things that I need to adjust. Remember guy's the only other sluice I have used is 6" x 1' sluice, So anything you can think of to improve this sluice I am all ears. Cheers Lee

Nice setup Lee, how did your heavy particles settle in your bottom sluice? That is;- your riffle area seem to have more gravel than required (is that a slope/angle or water adjustment?) Water does seem to flow nicely though. Question - if you were to release some lead shots where do you think they would end up with all that gravel currently in place? Those traps you have once the gravel settles heavies will flow over the top? – or does the gravel get washed eventually ? Only asking , because I have done something similar in past. What would be nice is fluidized bed in one of the last/end traps and use known ripples/riffles with either expanded mesh or Hungarian or could follow the gold hog matting from Skips report which he is very happy about – remember fast and easy cleanout. Let us know about your progress, you have an advantage (DIY) knowledge/equipment and look very neat well done. Added: Lee, make one of these- put it at the end of your box and see if you are loosing any gold.. cheers Joe

Looken good Lee. You just need those spray bars to do the right thing and lower yu hopper! Less angle on the hopper slows the material falling through, giving the water a better chance to clear your sluice I run my hopper almost flat, then shovel out the cleaned waste! so to speak? Cheers Chris.

Hi Chris Yeah I think In had it to steep, the row of holes in the spray bar are to wide apart. It's nothing that can't be fixed, what is the approx depth of water you run over the top of your riffles? cheers Lee

Flow of material, is all it's about??
Your riffles look tall! How tall?
I know when I shovel in a large amount of muddy material, the water level goes quite high! Have faith in the segregation proses ;D

Hi Chris how you going mate? My riffles are 40mm tall, with the rubber matt of about 15mm, if you have a look at the last pic you can see on the downstream side of the last riffle there appears to be a valley/ sort of a suck back affect, do you think this is normal or does this indicate something needs changing. HELP cheers Lee

The backwards flush is the perfect example of a riffle doing it's thing, encourage it throughout yu sluice ;D
Long tops on riffles are a big issue, the longer the top the further away the material lands and may not get the suck back effect?
My opinion, the top should be 20mm or less with a 15 deg up slope!
No matter what yu do. angles of the dangles an flow are the key to success! Just like yu gold pan, heavy's will sink to the bottom!!
