Good Morning all, given its my 1st comment on here, HI i am out on the river every morning having a pan or a sluice, i found and paid for my Angus McKirk sluice in only 3 days of panning, i guess this is more of a "there is still plenty there to be found" but at the same time can anyone give me round about suggestions to a good stretch of the river that may be worth a dig? i honestly believe research will win the day, its an everyday thing and mention Gold to people in your everyday life and youll be pleasantly suprised as to who knows what thats me done for now and i hope to see you out there with ya shovels slung over ya shoulders. KeepDiggin!!

Welcome to the site keepdiggin You haven't told us where you are so a bit hard to suggest a river or spot to dig. Try the dept of mineral resource website in your relevent state. That is always a good starting point. Although as AG Man says, if you got enough gold to pay for your sluice in three days, then keep digging there ;D

I found this, just to back up Riverminer, The discovery of gold altered the tranquility of the Yarrowee and introduced pollution. In researching the Yarrowee, Mr Butters found information about the river during the 1850s gold rush stating ``the green banks of the Yarrowee were lined with tubs and cradles, its clear waters were changed to liquid yellow as the yellowest Tiber flood, and its banks grew to be long shoals of tailing.'' Professor Weston Bate's book Lucky City says that, in 1883, ``the infamous drain that ran down Sturt Street from the hospital to the Yarrowee, often containing infected sewage and often overflowing into cellars, was abolished. ``But that was only a minor reduction in the pollution of that once beautiful stream. A soapworks and a fellmongery upstream, the woollen mill downstream, the Chinese village, the gaol, the gasworks and dozens of factories gave it their effluent.'' That once-beautiful stream was becoming a sewer.Older residents of Ballarat can still recall the extent of pollution in the Yarrowee in the early 1930s. Blood from the meatworks in Skipton St flowed under the street and then entered the water as an open drain and mixed with the blue-coloured run-off from the woollen mill, the two pollutants merging and turning the Yarrowee's water purple. In more recent years, Mr Butter writes, the Yarrowee had become a dumping ground for all kinds of refuse, including shopping trollies and assorted rubbish. Cheers Hennes,

Haha, i am playing in the Yarrowee and exploring all around the place. particulary Ballarat, i tend to have a 4 pan rule, where if there is no sign of colour then its a move either up or down stream. ive had no signs of being ill so far, although way back then waders were a dream im sure, having said that i am thankfull for the info. im not alone in my spot so i know that others are reaping the rewards on a daily basis. but im awaiting a really good down pour as the area will be clear of debris and more yella stuff will be washed all about the place. im almost ready to get a detector, one that will find point size nuggets, and id be right in saying that will yield great results

i am trying to save for a decent detector that will pick up small point size nuggets, ive found them specking along the river and they usually hide an inch or two under the surface, i know its flood gold but a machine would increase the yield. a highbanker, hell yes!! but affordibility gets me there, id love one but ill have to wait, besides, the sluice i have seems to be fairly good at holding big and small gold so ill keep going with that for now

Did a bit of panning in the Yarrowee myself today and a few bits with every pan. On closer inspection though there was a fair bit of mercury mixed with it. First time panning there. Found a rock covered with buck shot that someone had panned or sluiced - was that you keepdiggin?

Hey Kevanr, it might have been, but there are quite a few of us who circulate up and down the river, but you saying that tells me that your in a particular area ill keep nameless that i believe i know. no shortage of shot. nice work on ya efforts tho, im sure a lot of people dont have the luxury of Gold in every pan ay send me a PM sometime and maybe we can pan a spot or two where its there, but two shovels workin makes it quicker to get too. so im up, 1st coffee done, fire is lit and now im waiting for daylight, lol ill be down there this morning like everyother for an hour or two. oh, i took the sluice out yesterday and managed just over 1/2 gram in an hour the goal i have every day is to find an Ounce, or a speck, either of i love it N Joy ya day guys KeepDiggin
