White cliffs is opal country. Not sure if u need a licence, you don't need one at lightning ridge to fossick just can't go onto people's active claims.

Hi Hennes.
The same fossicking rules apply to Lightning Ridge and White Cliffs as for any other fossicking and prospecting. Don't fossick on any land that has an OPL without the claim holders consent. Below is a paragraph from the NSW DPI fossicking guidelines:-
Fossicking in Lightning Ridge and White Cliffs The basic fossicking requirements apply to fossicking in Lightning Ridge, including the requirement to obtain the titleholder’s consent to fossick in an area subject to an Opal Prospecting Licence (OPL) granted under division 2, part 10 of the Mining Act 1992 or Mineral Claim granted under part 9 of the Mining Act 1992 (insert links) at Lightning Ridge. OPLs and mineral claims are handled by the Lightning Ridge office of Industry & Investment NSW. The office is located at the NSW Miners Association Building, Lot 60 Morilla Street, Lightning Ridge, telephone: 6829 9200. Staff from that office can tell you if there is an OPL or a mineral claim on a particular parcel of land.

G'day Hennes, I was at white cliffs a few months ago. Go to the local ino center and they give you a map showing you where to go. Most of the claims aren't being worked and you are free to noodle around on the heaps. There is some good gold not far from there along the road to Milparinka, be sure to take a detector ;D. Bobby (grandpas adopted son) is a local out that way and should be able to help you out.

Bloody Hell its true Bobby is grandpas adopted son and long lost son. I thought I was right. They look very similar by the way. Seen Bobby asleep in his chair in his back yard on the forum photos when we discussed gold pans and grandpa recently down in Warragul. Poor Bobby he's been a bit quiet. Hope he is ok. donny

I heard the same thing Hennes , but it was open when I was there in November. There are several stations out there where you can still prospect just not on mt Browne apparently, but he has always been nice to us and would probably let you on if you ask. The spot I was referring to is closer to white cliffs on the road to Milparinka , where the nuggets are bigger , and there's also loads of available ground around tibooburra where nuggets can still be found. Good luck Diggerdude
