I don't mean this type of booby trap, ;D Some places around here have been know to have quite elaborate crops, I have come across a few small ones over the years but working with the cops years back there were some hevily protected setups.

If you have a GPS or map here are a couple of co-ordinates to get you there. Pretty much in the middle of the gold field (central to 5 mines) = 17° 36.241' S 145° 43.380' E estimated altitude of 549m above sea level. This one will get you very close to Nielsons mine = 17° 36.702' S 145° 43.265' E estimated altitude of 570m above sea level

there is a road that is on the left hand side just after passing the mamu walking track turnoff the road crosses a power line clearing twice then it runs parallel to the clearing at this spot walk about 600m north where you will find jordan creek head up stream to the junction of jordan and henrietta creek this is not the actual site of the jordan creek goldfield but you might be able to find gold, sapphire, topaz and garnets.

thanks to everyone for their info, seems like exploration is the way in, i have found a very accurate old map from a qld dept mines site but it is before the palmerston hwy and is difficult to overlay with modern maps which is frustrating cause its very accurate showing exact mines and creeks, thanks again lance.

Hi There, There are several ways into the Jordan Gold Field (west side of Palmerston Hwy) depending on how much you want to walk. You can access it from Henrietta Creek camp ground by walking due west from the camp ground turn off thence onto a logging track, thence north onto the original (aboriginal) walking track (if you can find it) which will take you across Jordan Creek, thence onto various dray tracks north to Wenganinie or from Douglas Creek via the old highway or from the K Road - northern end (best vehicle access and quickest way in.). You can also walk up Henrietta Creek but take a tyre tube to float across the big deep holes. What you will find are a lot of water races, hand built brick bridges and signs of mining and equipment from various eras and a lot of walking tracks and dray tracks. You will also find a lot of wait-a-while (Lawyer vine). The Tchuken Bora Ground Hotel site is a wait-a-while forest. Generally speaking, the more clearing that was done, the more wait-a-while. You PROBABLY will NOT find dope crops in these parts as the country is far too hostile for your average stoner. You might like to try Russell River - there is a track that runs from Golden Hole to Cooparoo Creek then on up to Towalla. Go the cark park, walk up towards the private property right next to GH then drop down over a small embankment onto the walking track just before the gate.
Doesn't matter where you go - day trips are pretty much out of the question because progress is so slow. Take a sharp machete.
