Better places around that area, try the river near the township and the creeks that flow into it. Have seen a lot of unfriendly people and plants grown when you go deep enough into the jungle, watch your back! DO NOT GO NEAR ANYTHING MAN MADE THEY CAN BE BOOBY-TRAPPED. ALSO A UXO AREA NEAR BY TOO, SAME RULES APPLY.

Yes Milla Milla and the creeks that flow into Beatrice River, I am sure you know the ones shold be on your maps UXO explanation and example of one location, see below:Unexploded ordnance (UXO) is any sort of military ammunition or explosive which has failed to explode as intended. It includes sea mines or shells used by the Navy, mortar bombs, mines, artillery shells or hand grenades used by the Army; bombs, rockets or missiles used by the Air Force; and many other types of ammunition and explosives including training munitions. Orange outline is indicative of slight risk and red is high risk with recorded UXO's discovered. Description: Infantry Training , Mortar and Artillery Ranges WWII, 7 and 9 Div Units, 1943 to 45. Assessment: This site is assessed as having a UXO risk

Hi lance, I am new to this forum again ( was a member backin 2000) I have been to Jordan a couple of times once just before Larry and once just this easter, it had changed a lot due to the power lines being taken out ,in between Henrietta ck camp and the bridge with a bend in it there is the old road that you can see on Google earth you can park beside the main road to asses the access at the very entrance but it can be passed in a 2wd Ute just watch out for the stinging nettle , 50m in ur on old bithcamin don't know how far you can go down that trak I got about 1km before Larry went through but a large tree was where I went on foot, when you stop if you walk to the top of the ridge on the left and walk south along the top youwill find a road that bends on the top heading down to the left, I followed that and about 100m down there is an old site with 2 rain water tanks full of sand and the road continues down hill I didn't get that way but I know its still there for futer exploring,I followed the trak back to the top and to see where it met the bitchamin and came across anothe road that had been cut trough that one at least 4 times . I got back to me car then went to the western end to follow that and follewed the track back to the s east mainly just to map theroads that one could go , easter this year I was devostated to see that the tracks would need a pack hors to get into , hope this helps cheers moot .

OK long while ago now and may be wrong, but try Mallans road (spelling?) goes from the old Palmerstom HWY (the one from Milla Milla to Kennedy HWY) it passes near close to where the Jordons creek starts which was changed to the name Johnstone river there was a track called west palmerston hwy will get you close.
THIS IS ALL WRONG THINKING OF ANOTHER THING. I WILL DIG OUT MY MAPS AND REPLY WITH A BETTER ANSWER. As I said long while ago now and memory is rusting away.

Hi thanks to everyone for info, Im going back, in oct determined to some how find the old diggings, and look for any ruins of the past miners, it seems like the route we have been going from misty mountain road may be wrong. Have appreciated the new info, I dont think many people would ever be too interested in this old field, once inthe jungle it is a serious possibilty of becoming hopelessly lost. Ant further info welcome...thanks mates lance.

OK I had a look at the area (cannot find my old maps yet) and the best way to get started is to go to Henrietta Creek Camping Ground and I believe it is only a few k's SW from there as Henrietta Creek has a section pretty much dead center to the old gold fields. You could also try getting there from the K tree road probably the track MOOT was referring to. I am not sure on how long the area was worked but know that there were active mining leases right up through the 1950's. Let us know how you go and don't forget to share your experiences and photo's you may get. Good luck exploring.

A classic, love it, Ha ha ha. But on a more serious note we are lucky up here as during WWII there was a lot of activity so on popular prospecting sites, example below.
"A member of the public found the first of the mines on June 23 and found another five on June 30. However the finding of the six prompted experts to believe many more were in the sand. "The mines have been there for 50 years. There was the potential for it being a dangerous situation," LEUT Jason Sears, the spokesman for HMAS CAIRNS, told Navy News. “The theory is they were laid as a training exercise during World War II but not collected afterwards. "The whole area up here was used for training during the war," he added."
These were real mines that were placed down with the 'safety pins' still in.
When I was growing up in Cairns I used to go UXO hunting, lots of collectibles to be found, but a dangerous exercise if you don't have proper training.

Also forgot about this one, a prospector found a underground bunker in the bush (not long after the rotten 'gun buy back') "the two callouts were not the only incidents they attended in the last month. On June 21 the police through MAJ Parker asked them to go to Mareeba to examine three grenades, ammunition and 30 rifles and machine guns found in a trapdoored bunker in the bush at Davies Creek outside Mareeba." Some people are so lucky (and honest)

I would be guessing dope growers? Have come across some plants once with rabbit traps set all round not sure if it was to discourage animals or humans but was all kind of obvious.
