You are more than welcome to come out if you have some time before you get the wheel. We have pans if you need one and even a small sluice you could try if you wish. We usually head out on a saterday unless camping or meeting others out there. Should be back out there this saterday weather permitting.

The road is fine for 2wd, a little dirt depending on what way you come. The ford itself is fine for a 2wd so long as a little care is taken. We have been getting out there about 9:30ish latly as its a bit cold any earlyer and stay till about 3ish depending on motivation Apart from prospecting stuff bring something to eat and drink. The waether is normally good out there but it would probably pay to have some wetweather gear just in case.

Where are you located?
Canberra - head to Bungendore then through Tarago and on to the ford OR go past Bungendore and then take the Goulbourne turnoff TO Tarago (much for a much on distance and road condition)
Nowra - take the road to Nerriga, take a right hand turn about 5kms from Nerriga itself then straight on to the ford.
Sydney - Goulbourne, Tarago, Ford
SE Coast - come up over the Clyde and take the Nowra/Nerriga Rd at Braidwood. ***There is a late night hot spot for wildlife from the top of the clyde mountain, all the way to the straights coming into braidwood itself. Once your in the open farmland your ok but for some reason for a few weeks every Spring, this area is full of wombats and big Greys. One night last year, driving through at about 11pm, I counted 7 wombats, 4 wallabies and 12 Kangaroos in the first 10kms from the top of the clyde. Every single one of them was standing in the middle of the damn road.. ***From Braidwood to Nerriga the road is pretty poor quality with LOTS of wildlife. I highly advise not driving it at night, and especially not at dusk or dawn
FROM TARAGO - head towards Nerriga/Nowra (if coming up the main street from the Police Station/Railway Crossing, head STRAIGHT past the Loaded Dog Hotel). *Travel on this road for approx 5kms, roughly 1km past the Rubbish Tip the road veers to the RIGHT, this used to be a right hand turn but the road has been modified recently, just make sure you don't turn left here and you'll be fine. *Travel for approx 12-14kms to meet a T intersection, turn LEFT towards Nowra *Travel for approx 7-9kms to another T intersection, turn RIGHT towards Nowra *Travel for approx 15-17kms and you will be at or very near Oallen Ford.

Its a fairly easy drive from that side in mate, I used to get there from Jerra in 1 hour or so, think it was 100kms on the dot one way.
Damn Jerra, the only thing good about that over priced imaginary upper class crap hole was shooting those massive carp with my bow hahahahaha!!!!
Ahhh... funny... you know the dam next to the old shops with the canadians running the takeaway? Big BIG Carp in there hey, surprisingly a very good fighting fish, with a fishing arrow attatched!!!

Its not too hard to find coming from your way no matter which way you choose to go. We come in from Nowra to Nerriga but have been out the other way. We are generally in a white duel cab....hilux i think

Its illegal to throw them back, but theres a public bin there anyway so I guess people are just lazy.. what a waste though they make excellent salt water bait.
I got harrassed by the police on christmas day, there is never ANYONE in canberra at xmas.. guessing one of the boring locals didn't like someone walking around the dam with a bow!! Was funny as hell, 1 squad car turns up then another then another etc etc, I destrung the bow the moment the first ones turned up but hands on guns guys jebus... pansies.. got off scott free in any case just told not to do it there again. Best spot I could ever imagine for bow shooting though.. the carp are so over fed they barely take a hook. They just sit in the warm surface layer like fat bastards getting a tan. I managed 3 carp in 45 minutes stalking with the biggest being 50-60cm. Hit 2x more of the large ones but was in the zone (lol) so didn't notice I'd tipped the arrow head. The first 3x hits went straight through the fish, the 2x big'ens I hit last got off the 'hook'
Next time gadget, next time... the hand spear!!
