If only it were that easy to walk up and down the creek... I was there today and the creek north of the Rimmers Bridge is criss- crossed with electric fencing. Call me unadventurous, but if someone puts electric fencing across the creek, they dont want me to cross and Im not even going to try... How do they get away with it obstructing access along the creek like that, when the creek is supposed to be crown land?
Also did a bit of crevicing in the creek near the caravan park, found a few little bits, small but still more course than the Shoalhaven gold that Im used to... Did a little panning at Adelong Falls - so many good spots there to try next time that I am sure has plenty of gold. Also tried some detecting up the dizzy steep heights of Victoria Hill, lots of bullets, casings and other rubbish but no gold.

Upstream of the falls, there is gold and numerous rock bars here and there along the course of the creek as kindly mapped by Goldrocs. Access is a little problematic, unless you take on the electric fences across the creek.
The area of the creek within the falls reserve area is covered with boulders and rock bars, plenty of places for crevicing or working gravel bars. I reckon any crevicer would be happy there for a whole year.
I didnt check downstream of the actually falls themselves, but a quick check of Google Earth tells me the rocky nature of the creek continues some distance until the creek opens onto a floodplain that has obviously been dredged in the past, dredge ponds everywhere...
The history says that the richest part of the creek was downstream of Victoria Hill, which is to the east of the creek just upstream of the falls, and the hill is supposed to be the origin of the richest parts of Adelong Creek. Upstream of the falls reserve area received its gold from hills and mountains south of the town, I think I read.
Very interesting place, Ill definitely be going back.

You cannot run an electric fence across a creek, It is the riparian zone. I own a property. Must sell a lot of Green Paint down that way for people to fall into. It is the Riparian Zone. No way hosay. It does pay to knock on doors. If a child or someone with a pacemaker were to come in contact with an electric fence what might happen. Although what the person has done is illegal it could be because he or they have had problems with others in the past. Knock on doors and ask for permission. Its courteous. Anyone can come onto my property as long as they do the right thing. Not create a bushfire and clean up afterwards. donny

Thats what I thought - its a no way hosay, but they did it anyway - it would be like running a fence across the long paddock, yeh?... Actually, one of my neighbours (out of Braidwood) did that, claiming the crown road was misaligned, running through his land, and the council lets him keep it blocked... Adjacent landowners blocking access to crown land, road reserves and riparian zones should be policed... I believe creeks and rivers should be fenced to keep livestock out, but not people.
I cant go near the fence, alas, I have electro-phobia since sticking the knife in the toaster as a lad.

GDay mate I haven't gone fossicking for yeaarrrrrs.. but I'm packing up the camper in a week or so and heading down into NSW, past Tumut. I thought I might throw the sluice in Adelong Creek and have a crack (if I can remember how!).. any chance you still have the photos you've linked to in this post? They're long gone at the moment.. I'd rather have really easy access, and I'll have kids with me etc, so I'd probably like to go just below the falls as it looks unfenced on google maps street view.. Sound okay do you think? Cheers a lot, Rolley
