Hi all, Just saying a big 'hello' to everyone out there. I have only just began to have a go at this prospecting game. Been meaning to do it for the past ten year since moving to Moruya (Far South Coast). There appears to be a lot more people out there doing this than I first thought. Anyway, any advice on what I need to get to start out with would be great. I have no idea what I'm doing but keen to get out there and give it a go (work permitting...). I have watched all the 'you tube' videos I can find and am currently reading a book called 'Fists full of gold' which I got from the Detect a Den store in Batemans Bay. I am thinking of starting off getting a few pans and a Garrett AT GOLD detector.....any advice on this would be great. Hopefully I have started on the right path anyway.... Willo.

HI WILLO ,I brought that detector from him 2/3 months ago, i havent found any gold with it yet, but it seems like a good starter detector ,i have dug up alot of bullets ect from 4/ 6 inches down, i went and got a sluice from him last week and tried it on the weekend and found some specks of gold( need a magnifying glass to see them lol ) but once i had them in the vial the detector picked it up ( from the surface though)... Brad also told me that quite a bit of gold has been coming out of the Mogo river lately so guess you could try panning there , anyway good luck and keep reading this forum , newbies like you and me get alot of useful tips here .

Welcome willo, the pan and detector you have chosen should make a good starting point, your lucky there's also loads of beaches nearby to use it on too. There is plenty of gold in them there hills still, Goodluck.

Welcome aboard Willo. If you're in a nuggety area then a detector sounds the go. Do as much research of the area as you can. Books, Google, speak to old timers & locals "in the know" etc
Pan & shovel is the perfect starting point tho. Cheap hobby investment @ $10 or so... Like KD said, get some gravel/river sand & bung in some lead shot & practice panning it off. If you got flowing water then a river sluice is the next cheapest upgrade & you'll be able to process more volume.
Good luck to you.

Thanks for all the advice. Much appreciated. I will hopefully be out looking around sooner rather than later with all the advice and info I have been able to find on here. Anyway, thanks again. Willo.
