Was prospecting as a boy in the late 60s, and was looking at some of the old places on Google earth My father used to take me, and some of those places still are there and may not have been seriously touched. So questions need to be asked about the changes and whether or not it is still possible to fossick in those areas!
They were in Victoria and I am in the NT but with cheap airflights it may still be economical !

Hi thelion and Welcome to the group. Don't have much info on the NT but there are a couple of other Territorian members here. I'll see what can find on the NT and either post it up or load it onto our Yahoo page Cheers Ric

I have a friend who will be most useful when she gets out of Hospital she used to be the Registrar of the Mining Wardens Court, and she is now working in Private industry! Plenty of Gold up this way but until recently prospecting was a problem, laws however were recently changed here in the NT. Am hoping it is now legal to use a small sluice, the problem here though is Crocodiles and they are everywhere!
I should point out that as a family we were dredging for gold in the late 60s, probably the first to put a dredge into the Tanjil River, even have dredge patents, for those with a long memory, my father dredged Appelton dock in Victoria after a Big Mercury spill there in 1970. Am aware that dredging is illegal now. For those that Know him Don Mahoney taught me to pan when I was 8 Im 52 now.
