Hi All, just new to this forum and fossicking. I'm from the Wallerawang, NSW area and have decided to have a bit of a go at fossicking. Seeing as its apparently all around me here. Got given a lend of a sluice and thought as the weathers been good lately its a great oppotunity to get out and about. I have no idea where to start or what I'm doing, but it should be fun. I do have a couple of questions to start of with though if anyone can help me; 1. What is a "High-Banker" ? 2. Are you allowed to use a small petrol powered pump to pump water from a creek or river up to a sluice which ultimately just runs back down into the same river Cheers, Geoff

Hi Geoff and welcome to the group. You are very handy to plenty of gold & Gem fields that's for sure. A Highbanker put simply is a two tier sluice which relies on water pumped into the top tier (hopper) where the wash is loaded and a bottom section which has your riffles and matting or what ever you choose to use. There are plenty of photos of members highbankers around the site and plenty of information and plans to build your own if you wish. Check any thread on Tuena or Oallen Ford and there should be some photos of highbankers in action. Also have a look through the DIY section alluvialgprospectors.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=eqipmakeAnswer to this is yes in NSW. Have a look back through the old posts and if you have any questions please ask as someone will always be able to help. There is no such thing as a silly question here. ;D ;D Cheers Ric.
