Hi everyone. Never really posted here before but this site has been very helpful. A bit about myself, I'm from south Gippsland and do a bit of sluicing up in the strzeleckie hills with my angus mackirk grubsteak. I really enjoy prospecting and all the research and outdoor time that comes with it.

Welcome aboard Tom, Any luck in them hills? I've scratched around that way in a small creek & got ziltch... Turtons is said to hold gold but in heavy clay so I'm told. We got a small place between Yarram & Toora. Where abouts are you

Then you'll have heard of Binginwarri. :-) We're there every few weeks & will check out Turtons one day. Foster's got a good gold history but I just found out that prospecting is taboo there :-( I'll hollar out when I decide to go for a dig up there again. I use a MacKirk as well - slightly bigger one - Explorer.

haha big cat country? that sounds good mate. hopin to go up there soon but theres just to many snakes at the moment. i talked to a bloke at the historical society in foster and he was not to keen on me prospecting in the creek there. i know of a couple of other spots around fish creek way where they got a bit. one place happens to be on my grandparents farm but i've been to fixed on turtons to try there lol

I've never seen any big cats but I've seen some dead cows & calves that have died in horrific ways. It's not every day you find a fresh born calf stuck 2 meters high up in the fork of a tree... Ohh yeah, back on the gold... If in doubt, the people to ask regarding the creek would be DPI or DSE which ever it is. If the creek is not on the prohibited list, I think it should be okay... I'll look into it more too

Prolly the weekend after next. We be doing a fair bit of work up there at the moment so panning time is hard to come by but will check in with ya if it looks like I get some time available - even if it's only a few hours early in the morning. Coz of the snakes too - early morning suits me fine...
