Hi everyone. Well as the title says, Im another newbie from Canberra. My name is Mark and im 31. I have a friend who has been into prospecting for years and is planning 3 month trip to WA soon, i think he has passed on the bug to me. I have never been prospecting, but he has inspired me to start. I have a bad back so walking around all day with a detector is out of the question. i decided to give panning a go but again the back problem means i need to be as efficient as possible to make this a viable hobby. After about 2 weeks of evening youtube sessions, i decided to build a sluice so i can dig for an hour or so, then sit back and pan the material from the sluice. So far i have a trough i purchased off a mate at a metal shop for $50. Its 170x48x25cm. I went to my local bunnings and they have a nice ribbed rubber material that looks like it wold do the trick. The only part i am unsure about is do i need to fork out for the miners moss or would marine carpet work? Bunnings has a ribbed marine carpet that looks like it would act as small riffles also. I will be putting it all together in the next few weeks and hope to go out to the Shoalhaven over easter to test it out. I was thinking of heading south from Braidwood to the Bombay/Bendoura/Ballalaba area, but after reading the forum i found a lot of members go to O'allen so i may head over there for a bit of verbal gold as well as the other kind. Well i think that is enough of an intro, hope to see you all out in the feild.

Maybe Tuena would be better or Oallen but the gold there is super fine.
Creeks are really low at the moment. Those 2 should be ok.
Bombay Crossing. You can get colour but I believe it was heavily dredged making it difficult to get into the wash.

Thanks redmanti. I have heard tuena is good, but time is not my friend at the moment so i might have to wait until after winter.

Hi Jeff i live north side, in Lyneham. Work in mitchell at HireAll. Unfortunately, working 6 days i dont get a lot of spare time. I am thinking of going to Oallen over Canberra day long weekend. There is also a geology for gold trip in Tuena at the end of march i would like to go to but dont know if funds will stretch that far. Would love to tag along with you some time, just hope our schedules line up. looking forward to getting out for the first time. I stumbled across the post for the AGP stickers. Are they still available? Do you have any at your workplace i can pick up? I usually am in fyshwick about once a week, or would it be easier to get one of the others to post to me?
Mark.

Dont discount the Shoalhaven south of Warri Crossing on the Kings Highway for panning - Bombay has gold, there seems to be more downstream of a gully coming from the side of the old diggings next to the carpark. But its not real easy to get to and there's lots of scrub. Upstream of the Bombay bridge there is some gold but spotty. Then there is Jinglemoney - a lot of the river is along crown land at the end of Jinglemoney Road - old diggings are everywhere and lots of rock traps on the river bed. Then Jembaicumbene and Back Creeks and the stock reserve in between - covered in old diggings and some gold close to the surface in various spots among the diggings. South of Back Creek there is no gold along the Shoalhaven, or not that I know of. Though there is a report in an old newspaper of gold in Jerrabattgulla Creek - but I have never found a spot of gold.
If youre heading toward Majors Creek, try the Majors Creek under the bridge - Im told there is gold there but I never found any. Then there is Bells Creek and Sheep Station Creek on the way down to Araluen - I have never found any on Bells Creek (only looked once) but my largest river gold (0.1g) in the area was from Sheep Station Creek... All good panning country, but to my knowledge not for detecting, as the gold is too small...
