Hi, im Shane and i am currently moving between Alice Springs in the Northern Territory and Wollongong, NSW... Very inexperienced but very keen to get out an have a scratch around. Done a tremendous amount of reading and research. I will be in Wollongong next week and am heading out for the first time with a mate who knows no more than me. He has a middle of the range detector, i will be using a pan to do some sampling and get a feel for it.
Any advice on any area's within about 3 odd hours of travelling. I remember hearing snippets and tales of gold being found out around the southern highlands when i was a kid,so i thought we might head up that way...thanks all

Hi Shane and welcome to the group. Wollongong is a good spot to be based as you can travel easily up to the central and southern tablelands to places such as Nerriga, Oallen, Braidwood, Araluen and down south to Mogo and Narooma districts all of which are Auriferous. A lot of the members here frequent Oallen Ford and other parts of the Shoalhaven river system plenty of info to read through and there is more information stored on our Yahoo page. you will need to register and be approved to gain access to this. See details here alluvialgprospectors.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=pdf&action=display&thread=731Don't be shy, there are plenty of knowledgeable people here who can answer most questions. Cheers and Enjoy Ric
