Gday one and all,
Snifter here and NO I'm NOT SICK I've just got a fever. I got this in 1990 after a bloke in Cooktown FNQ poured a large panikin of Palmer River alluvial gold out of a brown paperbag onto a table right in front of me then dropped a 20oz chunk in my hand.
Well, after a few years I had a couple of very frustrating weeks at work and with that gold still very vivid in my melon and 6 months of GGT mags teasing me that was it.I pulled the pin bought a troopy had a garage sale went to Cairns got a new 2100 with a 11in coil and a 18in garbage bin lid and away I went, all I was told was big coil big gold so the bin lid copped a hammering for the next 12 months.Within 20 minutes of switching the go button I had a 15g bit on my first go.That was it!! hook line and sinker It had me.
Since then I have hard rock mined the old timers way, on the Starkey river FNQ, Alluvial mined in the West Normanby river FNQ with .excavator and trommel etc. and in the Palmer river area.
I've swung my detector over a lot of north Qld and have found a lot of gold thanks to the green bible - Gold and Ghosts.
I spent five years in the north of Western Australia also with great results.
Now I am in the Northern Territory. What can I say as this incredible fever gets a grip on you, you might find yourself thinking and dreaming about greener pastures. All I can say is go for it!!
LIVE LONG AND PROSPECT
Cheers The SNIFTER
